question about ac

ok, i've heard from many people that you need to run your ac every now and then to keep it lubricate. my question is, how often is now and then? once a month? once a week? and where did that time interval come from?

i just run the defroster at least once a week, turns on the A/ C compressor if you haven't disabled that feature.
