Default How much was your speeding ticket ?

One of Finland's richest men has been handed a record 170,000 euros speeding ticket, thanks to the country's policy of relating the fine to your income.

Jussi Salonoja, the 27-year-old heir to a family-owned sausage empire, was given the 116,000 ticket after being caught driving 80kph in a 40kph zone.

Helsinki police came up with the figure after tax office data showed that Mr Salonoja earned close to 7m in 2002.

Yikes! Does that mean people with no income don't get fined?

Not likely since car ownership is way more expensive in Europe than here. If you can afford a car you can afford the ticket of some sort.

I should start a sausage empire too

Since I make the income of an average university student, I can rip it at 220km/hr and get a measly fine of a few bucks

Posting bail in jail for me would be a matter of a few Canadian pennies

Sorry, but you wouldn't be driving over in europe period. I have heard stories before about northern european countries fines people based on their income - but at least they have sensible limits on anything but the side streets.

Maybe over there, there is more incentive to out-run the cops??

I have one big sausage, does that count to start a sausage factory?

BOT (back on topic), damn!! I thought $170 or whatever it is these days was expensive, but then again I guess it is all relative.

No, recieving one big sausage through your 'back door' isn't enough to start a factory.
Hmmm, 27 years old and made $7Million in 2002.... I wonder if she's hot?

Nah, I got way more than that over the years and was on probation twice - I mean, one ticket can go as high as $460 these days.
