what to do for 12k maintenance?

Hey guys, my 12k mile maintenance is coming up, I never got a service checklist with my car, and the last 3 times I have been back to the dealership to get my oil filters for my oil changes I asked if they had any service manuals / checklists they always said they are out and they have them on order (yea right bla bla)

I have basically been going by word of mouth on my service schedule. I am definetly not going back there for service (bad experience).

If anyone could help me out here (Is there anywhere that has this stuff besides that one subaru tech site that charges for the information?)

so far I did
3k - oil change
6k - oil change + tire rotation
9k - oil change
12k -oil change (guessing another tire rotaion and allignment?)

You didn't get an owner's manual?

Yes, find whoever sold you the car without an owner's manual and slap them vigorously.

Then take your VIN and log on to http://my.subaru.com (this site will let you keep a log of your service and has a maintenance schedule).

FYI, I did check my owner's manual (for 2004). It calls for a 15,000 mile service, NOT a 12k. BUT if you log into mysubaru.com........it has a 12k!

Looks like mysubaru is in bed with the dealers!

Unless you are driving the car really hard you don't need to change the oil that often. Manual says 3750 for severe conditions; 7500 for not severe.

But yes on the tire rotation (every 7500), no on the alignment unless it needs it. Also check the air filter and replace if dirty (likely OK unless you get a lot of dust/pollen)

Just FWIW, I also did my trans and rear diff at 12k. But I'm just a little crazy about service, and it's not hard or expensive to do yourself.

^^ Gear oil is not called for until 30k and even then it says "inspect" not replace. Replace makes sense but 12k seems way early. Were there a lot of metal shavings/dust on the drain plug?

The front was clean, but shifting improved after the change. The rear had some gunk in it, and what looked like pieces of hardened thread sealer.
