Question how much 300HP costs

I'm trying total the cost of 300HP agian so here goes:
Stock: 165HP
intake:+15HP cost: $350 location: www.rallispec.com
exhaust:+20 hp with turbo, cost: $600
Turbo kit: 100HP at 9psi cost: around $3700 with S&H location: from "turbo"
Clutch: $400
Gauges and housing: $250 EGT and boost
J&S: $400

TOTAL $4700 that is better than last time!

A lot of these figures are probably wrong and I probably forgot something so help me out!

...but only as long as the bottle lasts. I was behind a kid today in an old Chevy Caprice with NOS (it was obvious)... he's in the left lane doing 70, I'm trying to get by, and pushing a little. So moron boy hits the NOS, gets to about 85, slows down as it wears off, hits it again, etc etc. He finally pushed over and got out of the way, but man, using NOS on the highway just to keep up with traffic and look REALLY cool with your Chevy bowtie on the back window bigger than an elephant.....I just don't know.

Well, if you're not doing the labor yourself, I'll tell ya the correct number is going to be in the neighborhood of $8000.

Turbokit with TEC2 = $6000 (either a Minnam or Redline's kit, same price -- JC's kit might save you a couple hundred).
Autometer Fuel Pressure/EGT/Boost Gauges and Housing $400, Clutch $400, new fuel pump $200. Add about $1200 labor and miscellaneous expenses and you're safely at your target. Labor cost comes from Rallispec's webpage listed prices.

You can do it more cheaply by going with FPR/ITC/SAFC/J&S combo, but you're really only saving a few hundred.

Well you could always auction off your kidney, some bone marrow and part of your liver. Advertise it on Ebay or QXL in Europe and you got your cash for your car. By doing so you will only prove that you are without a doubt the king of car mods. Another plus is it would cut down on driver weight giving you the similar benifits of carbon fiber parts. Then again you could always auction your first born off on there also.

Imprezive- You also completely forgot all the parts that will keep you on the road with that much power. With 300hp you'll definitely need better suspension and brakes if you want to survive long enough to enjoy it.

* Watching your engine turn the front of the car into swiss cheese -priceless.

Anyway, start adding the things like guages, AFC, ITC...yadda, yadda, yadda. At 9psi, I think that you would definately want:

AFC, ITC, J&S, EGT guage, Rich/Lean meter, boost guage, a good intercooler and LOTS of time.

Have fun. I never regret force feeding mine. Also, don't buy an intake if you plan on tc'ing the car. You will most likely have to take it out to route the plumbing for the intercooler.

This is for a MY00 so you don't kneed some of that stuff(like the tec-II but the S-AFC and itc might be a good Idea.
ATTN: turbo: how much would you charge for install?
so let's say $5500 for safty's sake not to bad

Imprezive, why don't you check with Brice Kelly? He is fabricating a turbo kit from some custom piping, Audi intercooler, and Legacy turbo. He is only going to be running 5 psi to start, but thats easily past 200 HP. You could always fix it up for close to 300 HP with other mods and the price should only come out to about $1500 + suspension and brakes. That is with the turbo being rebuilt.
Otherwise, with 300 HP and modified suspension and brakes and tires you will be going for around $10,000 grand with labor.
I think I am going to go Brice's route until I get more money.

Oh, and I thought that you did need the Tec-II for proper engine management and tuning even on MY00.

Why don't you buy SkiDazzle's car if he hasn't sold it yet? He has turbo and runs in the 13's for 1/4 mile

Well, since I've started assembling the money and parts to get blown (maybe not the best of phrasing), I've come to one conclusion - bite the bullet and get Shiv's TEC-II and Turbo setup - yep, it's $6k, but it's nearly everything I'll need, except for guages and a fuel pump. So yeah, it'll cost me $8k altogether, but I'll have a car that can run 12 lbs all day without a hiccup..

Turbo's kit scares me - probably because I'm just paranoid. But no electronics, that's something I just don't trust - I'd feel better if a J&S was included..

And I wouldn't expect 300 hp outta 9 psi, either.. A more reasonable number would be about 270 or 280..

If you're going turbo and buy the Rallispec intake, keep in mind it won't be compatable, particularly with Turbo's setup - I believe he's using the stock airbox. I bought one, along with an extra filter, and will be selling it when I go turbo - but I will be keeping and using the Pipercross filter.

300bhp out of 9psi is quite easy with the TEC-II considering 7.5psi with a restrictive exhaust and no engine management computer yields 270-280bhp.

After going through all the pains of modifying my car, here is the rule of thumb I use:

Decide what you want. Figure out roughly how much it's going to cost. Double that figure. Figure out roughly how long it will take. Double that figure. Then, you'll be accurate.
