Default Where do eyelashes go after they get trapped in your eye?

I always wondered about this, but where do eyelashes go once they get trapped in your eye and dissappear behind your eyelids? Do they dissolve or something or are they there forever?

Yeah I was wondering the same thing. Just the other day I had a big ass eyelash go down and never come back out.

It was never pushed out with tears so where is it? It might still be hanging out down there.

Try wearing contacts. You HAVE to fish them out...hurts like a bitch when they get stuck!

Not really, with contacts, if they get trapped behind your eyelid, just try looking towards them and they usually come back to the middle. Well, at least it works for me with the upper lids.

I had a big long loose hair hanging down in front of my eye. I went to put my contact in and I put it right overtop of the hair. OUCH!! I grabbed the bottom and pulled it out from under the contact *shudder*

Are you sure they come out? My thoughts were that maybe there was like an eyelash recycling bin behind each eye and they get cleaned and processed back there and return as new eyelashes.

There's a membrane (conjunctiva) that closes off the orbit (fancy word for eye socket). The lashes that get trapped behind your eyelids get coated with a tear mucus solution that protects your eye and allows the eyelash to get flushed out by the increased production of tears.

But I forgot the part that happens after you fall asleep.

That's then the underpants gnomes come, they remove your underwear and burrow into your butt. They tunnel up to your head and remove the eyelashes from the inside.

Well you aren't entirely wrong. It's just that the orbital septum forms the anterior wall of the orbit...not the conjunctiva. That just coats the underside of your eyelids and the globe.
