Default 2000 2.5 Rs Idle Problem

My fiance's 00 2.5RS is not feeling so hot. When idling (doesnt matter whether engine is cold or hot) it wants to die and occasionally has stalled. We have replaced the coil pack, plugs, wires, and the o2 sensor (twice) and it hasnt seemed to help at all. It will idle normal sometimes, and then the tachometer will drop and then jump and then drop again and then jump again. It has only spit out on CEL code and it was for the O2 sensor (that is when we had it replaced for the second time). Is it possible the timing is off? They have also "reprogrammed" the computer but that didnt help. This has been going on for about 4 months now and it isnt getting better. It seems to me this is an easily fixable problem and i dont know what else to check other than the items we have already replaced. Back in the summer, his coil pack freaked out and emited sparks while running and it seems ever since then it was sort of idling unsmoothly, but not like it is now. Does anyone have any suggestions??

If you can, try to get the car running with the MAP sensor disconnected.

I will try that this weekend. If you know off the top of your head, where is the MAP sensor located. Never had to mess with it before.

Hmmm, the sensor is at the throttlebody. There should be some wires that connects into it with a connector.

Default vacuum leak

Check for vacuum leaks. Your CEL seems to point in that direction too.

Another good possiblity is the idle air control (IAC) valve.
Sometimes they gum up and the solenoid isn't as smooth as it should be.

Does the stumble go away when you touch the gas?

Also, when it is idling wierd, pull the hose of the brake booster and see what happens.

The idle should climb a few hundred rpm. If it climbs and still stumbles, then it might be the MAP. If it climbs and stays smooth, the map is fine, because it is reacting to the change in pressure in the manifold and its probably the IAC valve.

Simple test. Tell us what happens and we'll take it from there.

What plugs did you put in?

If Bosch Platinums, that could be it as well.
