Have a Nice Day? How do I Screen off the hood scoop?

First of all, I'm not sure what section this should go in, but I'll give general a try...

I'm sick and tired of people putting stuff inside my hood scoop, so I'm going to block the front of it off. I've seen some members cars that did the same.

What material did you use? How did you attach it? and what should I know before I go do this myself?

Any info would be great..

Thanks a bunch,

Get yourself some gutter guard from home depot. Take off the blocking plate from under the hood and then you can take the scoop out. Cut yourself a piece of gutter guard the length and width of the oprning and attach it to the scoop. Zip ties work great.

Bad spellers of the world, UNTIE!!!

That method works the best. I've seen guys who've actually welded the screen in place, but it's really not necessary. Screening of the scoop (and vents if you want) is a good idea for 3 reasons:

1. No blockoff plate = more cool air into the enginebay
2. Makes morons look for a real garbage can
3. Looks SHWEEET!

From what I've read I thought of one thing, since the scoop is non-functional. How about taking it off and cover the hood? Anyone tried it before?

It is still non-functional, but the center vent keeps the intake box cooler => more power. As soon as I took the vent block off, I actually felt some more power.

I used 2 layors of bug screens (used on home doors and windows) in place of the vent block to keep debris away.

Don't kid yourself. There is no power increase from taking the blocking plate out

It might not give you any power, but it stops the scoop from acting as a parachute.

The Legacy hoodscoops appear to be a bit different in design from the impreza's, either that or I am just really inept. I tried to come up with a way to screen mine today but just could not get the angle right or figure out any way to secure the gutter guard (home depot, woo) without scratching any paint. So I just painted the hood scoop plate bright red and stuck it back on (very subtle, you don't notice it right away).

My engine bay gets enough mud in it as is, leaving the scoop open would probably make things worse. And down here with our humidity and high temperate it might not even help cool the engine bay down at all!

I don't know how those guys at the Masters can play... tiger woods was in a dark red shirt and black slacks today. Masters field is only 30 min away from my house and I was sweating like a pig working on the car today.

Even the mosquitos were taking water breaks!

Check this out it's a relatively cheap (around 45.00) mod and it looks good. You can order it from fellow I-Clubber "Buckbomb", (do a search and PM him for details). The images below are of his car I believe.
