Post New WRX - Center Tach Dash Kit Avaialble

There are many of you (like myself) who are disappointed that the center tach isn't going to be standard on the new WRX AS FAR AS WE KNOW.

You know what? It probably won't. Why?

Because the cluster with the center tach is available seperately for around $500 using todays conversion, from STi.

Here's the pic:

And here's the rest of the current New Age WRX Add-Ons... http://www.subaru-sti.co.jp/parts/ne...eza/index.html

Sooo it will be available, just gotta pay for it. And pay for it I will.

Edit...the only thing we can hope for is the MPH scale on the right speedo.

officer: "do you have any idea how fast you were driving??"
me: "yes sir, i was doing about 180km/h, and since 1 mile equals roughly 2.6 kilometers, that comes to what, 70 mph? but it sure seemed a lot faster than that!"

Sometimes that metric gauge can be fun. I have a friend with a truck from Canada, first time I drove that I looked at the dash and nearly fell over, until I realized it was km/h. But for about 2 seconds I was wondering why dodge would put a speedo that went to 200 in a truck. Made me chuckle... Think of all the fun you could have fooling your dumber friends...

Ya know, I was just thinking... (uh oh...)

Ok, So I buy the new cluster. The old cluster comes out.

Wouldn't you just be able to take the MPH indicators out of the cluster coming out of the car and replace the kph on the new one with it?

Anyone?

With the Euro cluster you get an instant 8,000rpm redline...

Yea, Cobb Tuning has these for current models that are a direct plug in for about $800. The actual guages to replace the tach and speedo are less (around $450), but I'm sure there's more install modification involved.

Unhappy

Also i belive that these kits are for off road use only becasue i belive that they reset the odometer. I may be wrong though with this STI kit.

KC: hmmm i doubt that you can use the faceplate of the stock in exchange of the STi one without doing some adjusting... notice how the STi one ends at 260 km/h while the US (if that's what we'll get) ends at 140mph or 220km/h

but what's interesting is that this pic form PR (www.new-impreza.com/wrxpr.htm) has its speedo also ends at 260 km/h, while having the same redline as the US (at 7k rpm, vs. the STi at 8k)

spt: we're cool

Or...

Does the ECU do a check against a processor in the Cluster that tells it what cluster is there?

I would think it's a simple resistance, spring loaded thing insise that wouldn't need any adjusting. It would read what it's getting (force) and would apply less or more turning force to compensate.

I took the pic from PR and that car was on it's way to Argentina, thus, not being a US model. Also notice the PR one has 17's, 4pot brakes, no tird brake light in glass, and has fender indicators.

Ahh, it also had the STi seats.

Leo

Also there was a Turbo Forester

A UK spec one would be in MPH and won't even have those peskey kmh markings either.

Whether the tach is in the middle I don't know.
