Cool Look at what I got to ride in today!!

I pulled into work & there was sitting the new age WRX sedan. What a nice car. It has regular suspension, the MOMO steering wheel,
Silver pedal pads(no pink dots) & it was turbo'd. There was no wing. So after many pictures which will be up later on our site, I got a ride. It is not as fast as Shiv's or TMR Impreza's(wrecked car). For me ,it had plenty of power.
It is going to have great potential for upgrades. It is heavier than the old RS & the suspension is stiff. This one also had BBS wheels. The front brakes are a little larger but are still a 2 pot braking system.
Over all I liked the car & I liked the looks of the car, even those headlights!
We will have upgrades for the new age Impreza
in stock before it arrives at the dealers.

Question

How were the seats?
Was there noticably more interior room?
Did you record any times?
Did you get any REAL stats on the thing?

I brought it over. It was a press car that we used for this year's Eight Great Rides testing. I spent much of the week driving it in the city, in the desert, at Buttonwillow raceway, etc,.

Nice car. Solid and well built. According to our full battery of radar testing, it's about as fast as an Acura Type R in a straight line. A bit slower around the west loop of Buttonwillow. But the aftermarket should be able to breathe some life into it. At nearly 3100lbs, it's a bit heavy though. Personally, I like the way the RS drives better. It's a little twitchier and less refined. But more fun around the track. Just my opinion though.

Have a Nice Day?

so the new turbo will do a 14.7 1/4 mile and 6.2 0-60 Yikes.. hopefully for everyone buying a new wrx it'll be faster than that. Runor has it the new integra's might do 14.2 1/4 mile and 5.7 0-60.. guess we will see. must be 215 BHP then

oh well,

Yesterday, we clocked the '02 WRX doing 0-60 in 6.1 seconds and the 1/4 mile in 14.6 sec at 91mph.

The current model Type R we tested the same day did 0-60 in 6.1 seconds and the 1/4 mile in 14.6 sec at 95mph.

Around the west loop of Buttonwillow, the Type R was a bit faster as well. It did slightly better in braking as well.

Umm, I assume that you have driven a Real wrx (jap spec), and I was wondering what you think of the new wrx vs the older one?
Thanks

Pam posted some pictures up on our web site http://www.autocaresubaru.com
click on the WRC car.

Brett Middleton was visiting yesterday and said we will be getting many upgrades for the new Impreza, although some performance mods like larger turbos are still in the works. We will have cat back systems, aluminum control arms, lowering springs, clear lenses,etc..

Shiv - You've got to be kidding. You took a car to the track and did acceleration tests? 1/4 mile times Oh the humanity.

Can you please translate for me - is 14.7 "slow", "fast", "very fast", "scary fast" or "really scary fast" Also, does the WRX run better than an oem turbo?

I take it your car was broken that day?

BTW, it looks like the US version must be either heavier or have less power than the UK version, remember that road tests fromt he UK had the car at 14.5 @ 95(I think) and 0-60 in 5.9. The differences are small (except for the trap speed), and could caused by many things.

Which seats are we getting? Are they the Aussie seats or the ones similar to the RS seats?

Unhappy

Damnit. This is really disappointing. It better not be above the $25K mark with those numbers. Maybe I should forget about the new WRX and buy a new truck, and get my project car started (old Datsun Z).

I can't believe we're getting stiffed...again. I'm so sick of us USA'ers getting the dregs. We save Europe 2, and they can't even give us a light car. (Although the Sube is Jap, maybe they're still mad about that whole radiation thing - sore losers).

3100lbs? That settles it. I'm keeping my RS and waiting for Johnny rich boy to wrap it around a tree (or better yet back it into one).

Youch. If I wanted a 3100lb turbo car I'd just buy a 1st gen DSM.

Subaru will get no brand loyalty from me if they keep piling on the pounds.

I don't think I'll go out of my way to get that car with those stats and possible price of 25k.

Hey now I want to be the first one scavenging a WRX engine for my RS... Hmmm lets see I could buy a beater for $400 or so, and drive around running into WRX's trying to total them. But only hitting them in the side or rear, so no drivetrain damage. yeah yeah... sounds like a plan.

re: herbie

Yeah, but the Legacy sales took off after the sparkling crash test results. They added the 250lb to it without increasing the power!

It does make the RS, or at least 1st gen Imprezas in general, kinda valuable.

Thanks for the pics. They look great. I like the whale tail in some of the other pics, but this pic shows this car doesn't need it. 3100lbs huh? Well it's litle heavy, but still way lighter (and stiffer) then any other turbo AWD. Weren't the last DSM GSXs like 3400lbs. When's it gonna be in SCC?
