Was wondering if anyone had any opinions on the Mitsubishi Galant VR-4, imported to the US in 91-92. There were only 3000 brought over, but I looked on autotrader and there are at least 3-4 up for sale in my area, all under 110k miles.
The VR-4 was a true rally-rep, has the 4AG3E (?) engine in the Eclipse GSX and the current Lancer. This is the real thing, waht Mitsu was racing in the WRC before they moved to the Lancer. Tuned to about 200hp, full-time awd, lots of amenities like AC, stereo, leather, white alloys, aero work. I don't think the older Galants are much heavier than the WRX's, right? I would guess about 2800 lbs. They are a little larger in size though. On paper, they seem to already have what we are just dying to pay $25k for in the Impreza Turbo. And these cars cost about $5000 now! Plus it is well-accepted that the engine is particulalry receptive to tuning, above 300bhp is not uncommon in the aftermarket. Anyway, anyone here owned one of these before? Any opinions? I guess it is definitely uglier though.

It weighed 3250lb, about the same as an AWD eclipse/talon/laser at the time.
Unless someone provides a compelling reason why not, I'd go for the more attractive and more common AWD eclipse, etc. There are several former and current owners (including Rallispec) who might read this though and share some info. |

Hmm, I didn't know it was that heavy. That's pretty significant.

WOW!!! That sounds pretty wild! I had no idea there was a Galant like that roaming the streets somewhere... I hope I never run into one!
Well, now that I have a ZEX kit, maybe I do want to run into one! ![]() |

check Adam Bloom's website, he has one, and I believe was getting rid of it, if I remember correctly he said it was very hard to work on.
plus, the infamous disposable tranny's they have and the cable shifters (not a linkage like we have) Ryan |
