Post Where can i get the cool projector beam lights?

They should fit where the stock lights are right now (on MY98). But my car came with these cheesy Piaa looking bulbs. I want lights that fit the entire gap. And i want projector/driving lights- not fog lights that just spew light in all directions. I want to light up the road, straight ahead, down the path.

Maybe i can get them from another subaru? Maybe aftermarket company?

Any idea? thanks
g

PS- I'm talking about the fog lights See the black part, all the way at the bottom of the pic? that black peice comes off easily. I want to replace that section.

Those stock "PIAA looking bulbs" ARE projection beam lamps. I've never seen a projector bulb that wasn't round -- if you want something that fills the whole thing, get the foglamps that were spec'd for the models below the OBS and RS. Not projection bulbs though.

That mounting location is too low for driving lamps anyway.

I believe the black piece and the fog light is one piece. I've seen these on eBay a number of times. You might check there or at http://www.subaruparts.com/ . Check out there page and email the with the pic you posted here, and maybe the parts guy be able to help you out.

I've ordered stuff from this site and the service is great. Good prices too.

G,

MY97OBS has the "black" filler pieces with STOCK fog lights that fill the opening completely.

I replaced the stock bulbs with Toucan Industries Eurolite Part # 194 12volt 5 watt "blue" bulbs. Only to match the Naxos Xenon Blue H4 12V 110/90W Part#P43T.

Try Subaru or look for used stock parts.

If you have any questions, let me know.

thanks for the advice guys

that black peice definitely is not part of the bulb housing, i changed the bulb to a 100watt.
And I'm pretty sure they are fog lenses, not projectors.

I'll have to check around i guess

A projector beam light is a type of bulb/reflector/lense configuration. It can be a fog light, driving lamp, or main beam. You won't get one that isn't spherical or generally oval in shape unless it is part of a larger light cluster; this is what makes me think those lamps are projector beam-style (I specifically remember something about that in the RS literature at the time, but I can't remember for sure). The bulb you used in it was probably not a standard H-series, or was it?

The fog lights that are in the current model OBS/Brighton/L Impreza's fill half that gap (just go look at the subaruparts site), but in the older cars (MY97 and earlier?) I've seen lamps that fill the whole thing -- chances are they won't have as good a reflector design (read: cheaper), but they will give you the look you want.

[edit]

This is the old-style bumper so it may not fit the 98 RS.

Greg.
