Cool Anyone want to drive an STi flat out for a week ?

www.cultcartours.com

The ultimate driving holiday for petrolheads

Essentially it involves flying over to Thailand for a week's driving holiday, staying in luxury hotels, driving Impreza WRXs, STi's, EVO V1s etc. on the fantastic driving roads in Northern Thailand.

The cars are very well equipped, with air-conditioning, in-car video (to record your exploits), two way radio, mobile phone, and of course a fridge for cold drinks

There will even be a few automatic cars, for those of you not used to manual gearboxes.

Accommodation is in some of the best luxury hotels in the area(s) covered, and included in the price. Also included in the price are return flights to Bangkok, internal flights within Thailand, breakfast and lunch every day, a traditional Thai massage (every day!), drinking water, blank videos, and a gala dinner at the end of the tour. The only extras are fuel (about 25p per litre!), evening meals (again very cheap) and travel insurance.

Driving will be done in small groups, and you can drive as fast (or slow) as you like, with no need to worry about speed cameras or policemen with radar guns.

I suppose it's like a bigger and better version of our famous Tour D'Ecosse which we hold on the West Coast of Scotland every year, except the weather is guaranteed to be warm, and the scenery even more spectacular!

This company has been set-up by Ralph Douglas and Peter Montgomery from Australia, who a few of you out there will know (or have heard of) through their involvement with the Impreza WRX Club. They have already offered their members the chance of some exclusive weeks at heavily discounted prices, and are prepared to offer SIDC members the same deal.

Exact prices are still to be confirmed (currently negotiating with airlines for the best possible rates), but should be no more than 2,300 per couple all inclusive for the 9/10 day package, or 2,100 if you pay for the whole holiday up front. This is a saving of almost 1,000!!! The dates being offered exclusively to SIDC members are:

(I'll let someone else do the conversion to US$!)

Departure 05/01/01 - return 14/01/01
Departure 19/01/01 - return 28/01/01
Departure 30/03/01 - return 08/04/01
Departure 13/04/01 - return 22/04/01

You could of course book your own flights if you have some air miles to use up, or want to fly on a particular airline (instead of Thai Air), and course upgrades to business and first class flights are available. Of course, it's even cheaper if you want to go on your own, instead of bringing your partner

There is also a two week tour available for those who want to spend more time in Thailand, or wish to explore other areas by car.

It's not all driving of course, with literally dozens of excursions and organised events (such as go-karting) available, and the shopping is apparently some of the best available anywhere in Asia. You can even stay on for additional days/weeks in other parts of Thailand (e.g. some of the major tourist areas) if you wish, and they'll arrange your flights times and hotels etc for you as well.

John

PS I don't have anything to do with the company, just passing on the good news early to other Scooby owners

WOW!

That's amazing, I just checked out their site. I spent some time in Thailand several years ago, and the roads in the north would be ideal for a Scooby. I'm seriously thinking about taking one of these tours next year. I requested additional information, when I receive it I'll let you guys know if there's anything else special being offered.

What an opportunity... I think I'll get in a fetal position now....

Cool

Damn! Looks like I picked the wrong year to start a family!!!! The cars, the location, the itinerary, I wanna go! I wonder if we could persuade CA to hold CA-World in Thailand next year?

I notice one of the attractions you visit is the opium fields. Get high and then try to drive fast along a mountain pass!!!!!!!!

And there is a fridge on the boot!!

Erm, who's gonna lend me 2100, please

I signed up for more info, and would be curious as to how many from our club might be thinking of doing this. Might get a group discount..

I'm also cleaning my keyboard from drooling at the thought of flogging a Sti around in another country...

Well, it sounds great but I could just picture the scene now... "Mr. Paone, please put DOWN the keys and slowly step back from the car..." How can you let a car like that go at the end of the trip?

I agree. That would be difficult, to say the least. However, for the chance to drive a WRX of any kind, I could probably justify that to myself. Hmmm...

Here is this email I just got from them. They responded pretty quick too, I emailed them late yesterday...Thanks for your inquiry re Cult Car Tours.
Due to the interest from the North American Subaru Impreza Owners Club, we
are putting together an offer for your Club at a very attractive rate. We
should have it in place mid this week and will be open to all members.
As you have already inquired we will send you the details and more info
directly.
I sure hope that you will find the offer to your liking and that we will see
you in Thailand to enjoy the thrill of driving cars like these. You should
receive our mail by the end of next week (16th)
Please contact me if needed.

Cheers

Ralph Douglas

Seems like a lot of you emailed them to hehe =) Which ff course is great!
