Default Cold Start Tip

My 04 XT has always cranked about 5 revolutions before turning over. Here is what I noticed. If you turn the key to the position just before the starter crank position for about 2 seconds, just until you here the whine from the fuel pump stop, then crank the starter, it fires right up! Check it out.

Could be an indication your battery is going south for what ever reason. A trick to getting a cold battery going is to put the key in the on position for a few min and turn on the lights (in this case low beam DRL's) this sends juice through the battery and makes it warmer helping it start quicker. Just a thought.

Also sounds like the fuel rail is bleeding down and that the fuel pump takes a few seconds to bring the pressure up at the injectors. My '01 does that sometimes so I'll give it a try.Thanks.

Frankly, I don't think I want my engine to fire right up on a cold day. I'd rather crank it to get some oil flow first.

I always wait for the six key-chimes and then crank.
I figure that will give some pressure to the system.

Excellent tip! I'll give that a try; it is frequently below zero here in the winter. Brrrrr!
