Angry Subaru Track Day!!!???

Hello,

What's wrong with all you wannabe posers? C'mon! Angus has put so much into this, why aren't more of you signed up for the track event. There are far more than 30 RSs in the Bay Area. Are you all so good that you don't need to learn anything about car control?

Don't flame me for my tone - I added smileys. All I really mean is that we need to get 30 deposits down or we lose the trackday. I know it's far off, but think of it this way. You have 14 weeks until the event. Put the event on your credit card now, and then save $15 per week. JUST $15 A WEEK! And you'll get world-class instruction from Shiv, Paul E., and some other fantastic drivers. You'll learn about your car. You'll learn how to read the road. You'll learn so much, it isn't even funny.

After my first track event, I think my street driving improved by more than it did after a dozen autocrosses (my parking lot skills, however, improved more from auto-x than from track ).

This is an opportunity of a life time. SoA will have someone there to talk with us. This is what we have all been asking for. Imagine that, SoA knows we have this track day coming up. They're thinking "wow, those impreza fans really do care about performance." Then we cancel the event. Oh yeah! That's the message we should send them.

C'mon. $15 a week for the next 14 weeks. That's one time less, eating out per week. That's $2 a day. Really, folks, to improve yourself, that's not much at all.

Plus, you might get your money back by winning some part for your car! And you'll get to meet all sorts of fun people

See you at the races, hopefully.

Joel

Joel no offense should be taken I know that I would go if I could but I am getting close to getting out of the military and doubt I will have the leave days to use for it other wise I would be there in a second. I have been helping Angus in some things like contacting vendors to help make this a great event and I think that 30 people is a small amount to ask to come and have a great time. Heck EVERYBODY left the N vs S meet with a prize and a smile on their face and that isn't even as close to well planned as this event can be. It took the DSM's and Miata clubs longer to get a track event organized like what Angus is working on pulling off. I say if at all possible be there!

cough...sissies...cough

This is pathetic. Everyone who does not make a serious effort to attend is ...well nevermind. Here we have Angus putting in many hours to produce an event which would be perfect for all those who are too afraid to go to a regular track event/school...and the majority of members just don't wanna make an effort. I don't really understand.

Why do we have a club?...so we can sit in front of our computers and talk about the next mod...or the last mod, and how great it is. If I am not mistaken, the point of a car club is to get together and either work on our cars, or drive our cars. We don't wanna be like a bunch of Honda punks who sit around parking lots and marvel at how "tight" everyones "ride" is....do we?

A car is to drive. If you spend any money modifying your car, it is far less effective of an investment than actually going to the track and learning how to drive. You don't wanna be taking an offramp too hot one day, and figure out too late that there is nothing that you can do....Shoulda hit the brakes when I was still going in a straight line....duh.

It is really for your own safety. I hate to hear about guys making a beginners mistake on the road, and getting into an accident. At least at the track, you won't kill anyone else.

Randy
BTW. The track day is the first day of classes for me. I will be missing 4 hours of graduate classes that day. So if you whine about not having the time, then time isn't your problem, you just don't have the dedication.

Hello,

Randy, you missed one thing. You wrote "At least at the track, you won't kill anyone else." Erm, T-hill HAS NEVER HAD AN ACCIDENT DURING ONE OF THEIR SCHOOL EVENTS. That's an awesome record and that's why if you act like an ARSE, they will eject you from the track. But, what that means for everyone else is that it's a SAFE place to learn. We're following all the school event rules, so we'll have no incidents.

What Randy said about school being a better mod than any is absolutely true. I'm not even the best driver out there by any stretch of the imagination. However, I'm willing to bet that in a completely stock car (if someone brings one), I can stick to almost any other driver here (Paul E., Shiv, and any other very experienced drivers aside). Heck, at buttonwillow, my rental Grand Prix was forced to pass porsches, NSXs, all makes of domestics, etc etc. My speeds through many of the turns were well above those posted by much better cars (entering tal-dega at about 90, finishing her off, counter-clock-wise, at over 100 mph (though I think my inside wheel must have lifted and been spinning in the air since that's faster than the race-tire'd RX7s and S2ks were taking it)), taking the decreasing radius off-ramp entering at above 55 and finishing my final slide above 35 (that's where the scooby rolled), etc. It's not that I had a better car, and the car had no mods. The driver was good

So come on out and learn something useful. Stop whining about SoA not bringing a turbo if you can't even show up for a subaru rep who wants to see how enthusiastic we really are about performance.

Joel, you also have to remember, that some people can drive very good without any schools and some simply can't drive no matter how much money they spend on training. It's like art or music.

But seriously, guys, I think you should really try your best to try to make it. It is once a year kind of a thing and you'll get to see many many cool cars and meet many many cool people. Plus, SOA will be there, Paul E. will be there and other "famous" people.

Why does it have to be a bay area track day? People can come from Washington, Oregon, and SoCal. We NorCal people drove all the way down to LA for a flippin' auto-x for christ sakes. Post about it in the general forum if it hasn't been posted there already...

Del I hav ebeen working on trying to get some So CA members up there and I really would like to go but for me I am stuck with few leave days left(about 7 for an emergency) before terminal. It has been posted in both the General and So. CA forums which tends to die and then get life and then die again (Sort of weird). We could try some of the AZ members and NV members as well as WA members.

Just out of curiosity... How widely has this event been promoted? Have all the Subaru bulletin boards been hit up? Mailing lists? More general car sites?

I'm sure that angus is utterly competent at performing those tasks, and I really appreciate his efforts. I'm hoping for this to be my first track event, and it sounds like it's going to be extremely memorable if it all comes together! There -have- to be more than 8=10 people on the West Coast interested in an event such as this?

Hello,

Angus or anyone else, I think what needs to be done is to post that letter that Angus had me put up on the Mlist to Simon's BBS, to the General Forum (for the second time), and anywhere else y'all can think of. That might drum up more people.

What do you think, Angus? Also mention the cut-off before we kill the event.

Hello,

Anyone have time on their hands? http://home.earthlink.net/~gndiamant/subaru.htm and go down to "forums" and hit all of those and go to clubs-americas and hit some of those...

That should take the rest of the day, eh?

Question

When is the cut-off date? I'm traveling out of state next week and Its going to cost a fortune! Then I have a date with a alarm installation place ($500+). a week after that I should be able to cough up the dough...I would REALLY like to attend!! If the cash is needed earlier, I'm sure I can figure something out?!?!

Unhappy

I want to go.. I rreaaaallly want to go. This was going to be my first bonafide on track experience in my life. The big but is, I go to kendo practices on Thursdays and work the day after at 8:00am. I would've gone if the date was on a Saturday or Sunday. There would've been no conflict there and no questions asked. My Kendo practices START at 7:00 and end at 10:30pm. I have to be at the dojo by 6:30. I say have to because I have a competition coming up that same Sunday and I was selected as [edit]chuken (3rd person) on the team. I'm sorry to make it sound so harsh, but this club takes a back seat to Kendo and work.

I posted up the "good places to drive" post because I wanted to take a DRIVE (if that was implied by the "poser" remark ). Not race.
I appreciate all the hard work that Angus put into this meet, but the point is that, there is simply no way I can make this date. I have tons of things scheduled that day already.

Randy,
Laadeeedaaa ... I just graduated from Davis last year and missing one day of classes (graduate or not) on the first day is nothing. You can ask the prof for notes or info the next day. Point is.. It's not that big of a deal. As for Kendo, you always have people waiting to kick your ass the next practice because you missed one day.

Tim

Angus --

Are the entries transferrable? I'm asking because I'm about to sign up, but if I get stuck not being able to go (I may be in court -- Joel's not the only attorney on the board) I'd like to be able to give my wife a chance to go.

If the entry is non-transferrable, I'm reluctant to commit.

Hello,

Hey Tim, I guess competition Saturday is a good excuse... The rest of your excuses, any of us who work can match or beat... And the rest of y'all? Why aren't you there?

Angus wants to cut off this friday. If we don't have numbers by then (20 of us), then he doesn't want to risk $6k on his own. Amen to that. If I were in his shoes, 20x$210=$4200, I wouldn't want to risk the $2k! He's extending the club a $2k loan if only 20 of us RSVP... Come one folks, sign up now!

Joel

Edit:

Blu-Imp, you posted at the same time as I was composing... Since we're paying Angus directly and not actually signing the waivers and such with the track, the entry is transferable. Basically, we're giving Angus the money to cover the rental fee for the track and that's it.

I believe, actually, that T-Hill won't care whose money is whose until we get there and sign the waiver forms. That's all they care about.

Joel

Thanks for the reply -- I figured as much, but wanted to double-check; I didn't want to lose two bills for a stupid reason like work. :-)

I seriously seriously would love to go...but since I just got my Impreza (5 weeks), and some stuff for it (alarm, head unit, suspension and some others) I'm really really short on money...so I don't think i can commit myself to doing this...

I would love to tag along and drive up to the track with everyone just to watch though...

Joel,

Like I said before, Kendo and work come before i-club. By the time the day is over, I'll be dead. 2-3hrs to drive up there, 2-3hrs to drive back and 3 hrs of Kendo after that? No way! I can't do both, so the track meet is the one to go. Plus, I won't have spare vacation hours left due to the July 4th holiday and the kendo camp in August. By Sept, I'll only have 4hrs if I'm lucky.. This is where I'm leaving it at before this turns into a whine fest.
