Default Important Ecutek question

Guys,

Currently I have the ecutek tuned for stage 1, so basically for turboback,ic hoses, etc. I plan on getting a bigger turbo, injectors and all that other good stuff. My question is this. Once I have the turbo upgrade in and all that, will my car still be driveable even though the ecu is tuned for just bolt ons? I only plan on driving this way, if its even possible for no more than a day.

I would think that you would be ok as long as you don't boost. With the stock ECU, things run a bit rich so you can get away with boosting up to 12-14psi. But with a tuned ECU, it runs leaner so I would be very hesitant to drive the car under boost.

i drove around with a vf34,sti injectors, pump, etc for about 500-700 miles before the tune in september. I was also stage 1, went to stage2 (vishnu stages).

You will be okay so long as you don't boost too much.I played it safe and watched that i didn't go over 5-6 psi, LOTS of right food discipline. I'm in the NNJ area so if you want I can hook up my delta dash and pull your wastegate cycle down so you can't boost more than wastegate pressure.

*IMPORTANT* I dunno what turbo you are getting but make sure you use the stock vacuum hoses from the stock turbo on the new one. the little hoses that connect the compressor outlet to the wastegate. I didn't and had some boost problems because of it.

Well vishnu is having a dyno day on march 21st, all these mods will be installed the day before. Nothing like waiting for the last minute! But it looks like as long as i dont boost that much, i should be ok. Thanks!

Yea i know i'll be there too. i wouldn't wait till that close to the dyno day. It would be better to get a few hundred miles on the new turbo to break it in before putting it under the stress of 5-7 dyno runs.

ugh i forgot about the break in period for the turbo. I just dont like the idea of driving 500 miles to break in the turbo but still driving around on a stage 1 flashed ecu.

i know i didn't either but even if you aren't building boost you still have oil running through it, so i trip up and down the turnpike wouldnt be a bad idea, nor would you have to do a lot of acceleration. I'm not sure where you are but if you are in the NNJ area PM me, i'd be glad to tinker with your boost so you don't hurt anything. i drove 3 weeks around towns with stage 2 parts and a stage 1 ecu, nothing bad happen.
