Default UTEC compared to TXS Unichip...?

Aside from being able to self tune (I'd only need a cheapo laptop as I already have AutoTap) does the UTEC work better than the Unichip setup? Any reasons to swap them out?

Sure it works better. It has tons more options and features you can use, and i'm not just taking about silly stuff like launch control or wiring in a spare solenoid or shift light (which you can). I mean like coolent correction, or IAT correction for fuel or timing. Full adjustable knock control, and above 5,500rpms too. It's worth the money.

And being able to switch between differnet maps at the push of a button. Then there is datalogging etc. You just need a laptop able to run windows 95 i guess, although people have used worse lol.

Unichips are bad, they will work in a pinch but I wouldnt... get something real. A utec with an ecu reflash works realy good!

I guess they are just limited now-a-days.

How easy is it to setup injector offsets for oversized fuel injectors?

Looks like a UTEC may be the next mod for me.

Hrm...I've never cared for the full boost onset at low throttle with the Unichip setup either.

Reading that post led me to consider ECUtek. That seems a LOT like LS1 Edit I used on my Z71...basically controls and can change EVERYTHING on the stock computer (no piggyback crap) for the most linear solution.

LS1 Edit is about a $600 program that is available to the public. Is that ECUtek available like that? It didn't appear so on their site.

If my local tuning place doesn't have ECUtek, can I have them tune a UTEC where it runs smooth like stock?

A basic ecu reflash and a utec for tweeks is a realy good set-up.

A good utec tuner can have it running good...

Whats your set up?

Full catless exhaust, IC hoses, and that Unichip currently.

Next mod will be a large TMIC then injectors and fuel pump once I decide on what turbo (prolly P&P'd VF35 for the 4EAT I have).

How would the ECU get reflashed and the UTEC for tweaking?

Also I don't want this hard to get back to stock in more than a day. I don't know how much longer I will keep this car (at least 6 months) if that makes a difference or not upon tuning.

Thanks!

Dont put all that work into the car if your not going to keep it...

You can pick up a cobb stage 2.5.... and the use the utec for tweeks. Or get an ecutek from a local tuner. Its not a cheep way to go but it works good. Again if you not going to keep the car dont put all this money into it, you wont get it back out.

Well I do all my own labor and almost always buy used parts so losing a few $100 doesn't bother me at all to have fun for now. This car is a good beater for me so hell, I may just run it to 100K mi then off it, it's tough to say.

How much is an ECUtek flash typically? What about dyno tuning a UTEC?
