Post Prodrive (was UK Impreza)

Hi All

Just read the post about the UK Impreza with out kit on, nice to read good comments - Thank you.

We are currently working on the new car, we will have a performance pack available for it by the time it comes over to you.

The parts we make for road cars are not the cheap'est in the market place - However, they are of a high quality and designed NOT to invaladate the Subaru warrenty.

Hope thise information is of use

Cheers

Question

Sorry if this seems an obtuse question to ask, but if I read the implication of your post correctly, am I correct in assuming that you are an official representative of Prodrive?

Cool

Well that's just too cool!

Now, who's the Prodrive rep over here in the Colonies? Won't do us much good to know all about the goodies that the UK and the rest of the world can get for their Scoobies, whilst we have to do starving orphan bit, looking, but never touching the things that will satisfy our need for speed.

Simon,

It's great to see someone from Prodrive posting here. Prodrive has always been highly regarded by many on this board.

In your post you stated "We are currently working on the new car, we will have a performance pack available for it by the time it comes over to you." By this, do you mean you'll make the performance pack(s) available here in the US? If so, how? Presently, there only seems to be one source for Prodrive parts here in the States. And availability of those parts is pretty poor. In particular your GT and WR Sport suspension kits. In my own case, I'm going to be installing STi V5 struts with Eibach Prokit springs, as I just could not wait any longer for one of your kits. This STi/Eibach combo is not as well sorted as your kit, but having a decent kit intalled is better than just dreaming about a great kit that may never show up. Does Prodrive plan to fix this problem in the future?

You also mentioned that your products are "....designed NOT to invaladate the Subaru warrenty". Well Subaru of America (SOA) seems very conservitive compared to Subaru of the UK (SoUK). Has Prodrive talked with SOA on this subject? It's great that SoUK still honors the warranty with your parts installed, but don't I think too many people stateside are going to ship their cars across the pond for service.

Well, in that case, if indeed Prodrive reads this board.....

SEND US THE P1 PLEASE!!! Any chance of getting a left hand drive Impreza tuned by Prodrive? Are you going to establish a shop here? Thank you.

And what are you gonna do about the ugliness of the new Impreza?

If I were a betting man I'd say... "Subaru Performance Tuning" SOA registered the domain SubaruPerformance.com in Feb. They also stated in a press release recently that "Subaru will expand the current line of SPT offerings in the very near future." Perhaps there's hope for 2001...

Question

Hello again Simon and any other Prodrive reps who might be lurking.

I have a question. Does Prodrive offer now, or intend to offer at some point in the future, any aftermarket performance parts for the North American Impreza RS?

I ask since I am still debating whether or not I want to look into a 2002 model year Turbo Impreza. There are a variety of reasons, chiefmost being the fact that no coupe is yet available, and the dramatic change in styling over the previous generation Impreza.

Also, as many of the club regulars have shown, the EJ25 is not as brittle as many first thought, and, properly tuned with an aftermarket turbo, can show a genuine WRX a clean set of heels on track day.

Are any of these parts or changes going to be CARB approved? No sense in buying them if you live in a state that requires the CARB certification. Also why no US P1 if you know there is a market for it? Any plans on parts for the Forester or the Legacy GT? Has SOA officially said that they won't void your warranty if we use these parts? SOA so far has been really conservative about aftermarket parts and warranty work. Are you to only design parts for the new model or are you working on parts for the current Impreza RS as well?

Prodrive- (Simon)

Its wonderful to see you posting here on this board. I have your Prodrive suspension on my RS and have been easily satisfied since day 1. Keep up the good work and I really look forward to the products you will be selling for the new turbo here in the states. Thank you!

Simon,
Thanks for the info. Wish we could get more but I understand (how does $5.00 cdn sound for some info??? ).
Prodrive has as much, if not more than Subaru, to do with the WRC success. For that, and the extra HP you are gonna get out of my new Impreza, I thank you. (Wow, 2 sentences in a row with the same punctuation...gotta branch out.)

Cheers,

If only they (Prodrive) could get Bilstein to hurry up and make some shocks so I could get my WR Sport kit and I would be happy to wait for a while and see what they have cooking. Come on guys, give us something!

Are they only gonna support the next-gen impreza or do current gen owners have something to look forward to as well?

Stateside, i mean.

Doesn't Bilstein already make OE shocks for the Legacy GT-B...hence the B?

SOA isn't going to become your only distributor are they? I sure hope not. The prices they qoute for the pseudo performance parts in their catalog right now are too high. Most people don't bother with the SPT parts and instead get parts from other sources. I can see it now, here's our Prodrive fog light conversion for only $700. Uh no thanks.

Thumbs down

Oh sure, you Prodrive guys make great suspensions (I've been driving on one of your setups for over a year) and it's wonderful that you'll be selling a U.S. spec ECU and other engine goodies to give us a happy and torquey 240hp engine.

But how about doing something to make the new WRX less ugly?
