that brings up another point ... i think i could have air in there too .... i hear a "bubbling" sound when i first start the car.... would air in the coolant system effect the fluid in any way ??

Did anyone pick up on that blaring statement ???

Next stop is your dealer if your in warranty, as if you hear perculation of the coolant I'd want it tested for emissions.

Also I'd want the complete system pressure tested including the block and heads, coolant systems don't perculate for no reason there is usually something making it do that like a head gasket, a crack in a head(s), or a crack in a cylinder wall(s).

I sure hope I'm wrong, but it seems like a weekly thing at the shop and 95% of the time it's one of the above ( I don't work around Subarus though that much it's just every other car under the sun )

I posted on the other thread where I remember an issue a while back where WRX's were getting leaks from the lower radiator hose. If that is the case and you are running low on coolant AND you have the heater on (Ohio in winter = likely) you may be hearing the air in the system easier. Check for the leak first, then get the cooling system pressure tested. If it is going somewhere the pressure test will show it.

what is a "pressure test" exactly ... i understand the concept but how is it done ? ...What is needed ?

it is a quite loud "gugrle" when i first start it everyday ..... after that it is gone (i just started the car after is sat for 3hrs and couldntr hear it)

There is a special tool (hand pump w/ a gauge) with an adapter that replaces the radiator cap. You pump it up and watch the gauge to see if the pressure drops over a period of time. If it does, you have a leak somewhere...anything from a loose hose to a head gasket. The pressure test is the first step towards determining the source of the problem.

You can get them at Autozone for free

http://www1.autozone.com/servlet/UiB...ure_tester.jsp

It is very easy to use - just don't try it unless the coolant is cold.

Don't mess around with water - buy some pre-mixed coolant while you are at the parts store and use that.
