I'm just wondering if $90 is a fair price to pay someone to change plugs in my car -- plus I'm providing the v-powers.
Sorry if this should be in the noob section -- I don't feel comfortable doing it right now as I don't have any type of magnetic "grabber"

You don't need magnetic "grabbers" for plugs. It takes about an hour to an hour and a half to do the plugs if it's your first time so $90 is about right as most places charge $65/hour for labor. You could always see if there's someone in your area that is willing to do it with you or do it cheaper.

I've changed the plugs in my WRX once and I swore I'd never do it again... I assume it's a similar PITA in your 2.5RS to swap plugs.
If you do it yourself it would help to have a 1" or 2" articulated ratchet extension. Personally I think it's worth $90 to have somebody else do it. |

um..i changed mine and i thought it was a lot easier than I though. I have 02 WRX btw, only need to remove the battery and airbox. Entire process took me 40 mins.
If you take to the dealer then it should be one hour job I assume? Depends on the dealer's rate, average should be around 70-75 an hour. |

My Forester 2.5L engine takes me about 45 minutes to change plugs. Remove front part of air intake, two bolts on window washer and move aside and do it. The first time the rubber spark plug boots are very tight and will require a strong hand to twist and pull them loose. Eddie

Spark plugs are very easy to do. All you have to do on the drivers side is take the windshield washer fluid resv out. Takes 20min max if that. I say save the $90 and buy beer and stippers!!!

In the WRX, you only needed to remove the battery and airbox? Did you have to use a special extension like the other folks? |

You don't even have to remove the battery. With the right tools, you can just remove the airbox on the passenger side and lift the windshield resevoir out of the way on the driver's side for access. I use a spark plug socket and a 1/2" extension to get the plugs loosened and then I remove the socket wrench and just turn the extension and socket with my hands.
