Subaru Extends Agreement With International Mountain Bicycling Association

— Longstanding Partnership Continues to Create, Enhance, and Preserve Trail Opportunities for Thousands of Mountain Bikers —

CHERRY HILL, N.J., Feb. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Subaru of America, Inc., the only car company that features symmetrical all-wheel drive as standard equipment on every vehicle in its product line, today announced it has extended its partnership with the International Mountain Bicycling Association (IMBA). Under the terms of the partnership, Subaru will again be the official vehicle of IMBA and the title sponsor of the Subaru/IMBA Trail Care Crew.

"Subaru is excited to extend our partnership with IMBA," said Tim Bennett, director of marketing programs, Subaru of America, Inc. "The Subaru/IMBA Trail Care Crew is an excellent outreach program that educates thousands of mountain biking enthusiasts on how to build and maintain mountain bike trails nationwide."

Launched in 1997, the Subaru/IMBA Trail Care Crew program has led more than 1,000 trail projects, trained more than 35,000 people in sustainable trailbuilding techniques, and logged half a million miles of coast-to-coast travel in its official Subaru vehicles.

The award-winning program includes two full-time, professional teams of trail experts who travel North America year-round, leading IMBA Trailbuilding Schools, meeting with government officials and land managers, and working with IMBA-affiliated groups to improve mountain biking opportunities.

"Thanks to the renewed support from Subaru, the Subaru/IMBA Trail Care Crews will continue to improve trails for mountain bikers and other trail users," said IMBA executive director Tim Blumenthal. "This long-term partnership continues to provide tremendous benefits for our sport."

The Subaru/IMBA Trail Care Crews travel nationwide in their Subaru Outbacks and teach "sustainable" trailbuilding, which means building trails that last and require minimal maintenance. This helps reduce trail damage, protects the environment, and enhances visitor enjoyment.

The Subaru/IMBA Trail Care Crew program has inspired great volunteer trailwork across the U.S. - a big help to government agencies and land managers who have limited funding for trail construction and maintenance.

The complete 2004 Subaru/IMBA Trail Care Crew schedule will be announced in March. For additional information please visit http://www.imba.com.

Subaru Commitment to the Outdoors
When a Subaru is seen driving down the road or at the trailhead, chances are it will be loaded with a kayak, canoe, mountain bike, skis or snowboard. That's because Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive provides drivers with superior performance in all types of conditions - essential for transporting outdoor sports enthusiasts to the river, the mountains and those "off the beaten path" destinations with safety and confidence. Together with its partners, Subaru hosts hundreds of outdoor events each year from coast to coast. This approach helps Subaru learn more about its customers' interests, and enables the company to demonstrate how Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive can complement their active lifestyles. Because of this commitment, many refer to Subaru as the official vehicle of the outdoors. For more information visit http://www.outdoorlife.subaru.com.

About IMBA
The International Mountain Bicycling Association creates, enhances and preserves trail opportunities for mountain bikers worldwide. Since 1988, IMBA has been bringing out the best in mountain biking by encouraging low-impact riding, volunteer trailwork participation, cooperation among different trail user groups, and innovative trail management solutions. IMBA's worldwide network includes 32,000 individual members, more than 450 bicycle clubs, and 400 corporate partners and dealer members. For more information visit http://www.imba.com.

About Subaru of America, Inc.
Subaru of America, Inc. is a wholly owned subsidiary of Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd. of Japan. Headquartered near Philadelphia, the company markets and distributes all-wheel drive Subaru vehicles, parts and accessories through a network of nearly 600 dealers across the United States. This is great news for anyone considering the purchase of a new Subaru in the next year. Joining the IMBA is currently the cheapest method (without applying for a Rainbow credit card) for anyone to "buy" their way into Subaru of America's VIP Partners Program, and it's reassuring to know that the relationship will remain in place for at least another year. Basic IMBA membership costs only $25/year. Details on IMBA membership and benefits can be found at http://www.imba.com/membership/benefits_indiv.html (follow the Subaru VIP Program link from that page for a description of how the program works and a link to a VIP Program FAQ page).

Note that you must be a member for 6 months before you can qualify for this benefit and that the VIP program isn't honored in Hawaii or Canada. Note also that:

Well yeah, I have my rainbow card for quite a while now. I did all my homework for buying the Legacy

I'm just saying I doubt they'll let you buy a brand new model at invoice price right away ...

Was that the earliest you could've bought it? Or did you just decided to wait out 3 months?
It'll be good news if I can get my Legacy this year

As you may recall, the first WRXes arrived on dealer lots on Mar 12, 2001 in the Northeast and about Mar 15, 2001 elsewhere. Most dealerships had "waiting" lists of people willing to pay full MSRP (or more). Yet, here's a thread from a guy who ordered his WRX under the Subaru VIP Partners Program on Mar 1, 2001:
http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...882#post345882

There was a "controversy" about joining the IMBA to buy a WRX at invoice. Prior to the announcement of the WRX, one only had to be an IMBA member for 90 days in order to qualify for the VIP program. Howerver, ...

I'm very confident that you'll be able to buy a 2005 Legacy or Outback from day 1 (if you're already in the VIP Partner Program), but it may depend on the dealership. Of course, if there's a not-yet-announced Legacy Spec B due soon, it may be harder to find a dealer willing to participate in the VIP program for that (at least at first).

What does sold order basis mean? Like you order it and they build it? As in not a vehicle off the lot? I would prefer that actually!

Cool. I guess my problem now is seeing if the dealer would let me buy at vip price and use the chase/mbna coupons I have gathered at the same time.

they don't have a choice about letting you buy at VIP price or using coupons (which is as good as cash for them anyway), but I suppose they could put you at the end of the line if there are 10 people willing to pay MSRP + for it!

Well I don't know if there's any fine print on either one that says it is not valid with any other offer or some mumble jumble like that. If not, great.

I got my WRX in the first allocation using the VIP program. I ordered it in January 2001, and took delivery on March 27th. And if the new Legacy GT wagon can be had with HID I may well order one using the VIP program again.

Thumbs up Yahoo!

I joined IMBA almost three years ago for the VIP benefit...maybe one of these days I'll use it. I'm patiently waiting on a 2.5 WRX model to debut. At least that's my current excuse! Thanks, Jon.

What are you waiting for? It's already here and it's called the WRX STi.
