I have been enjoying the new rims and tread I have just put on my subie and have been doing a lot of dirt road driving at high speeds, and I hear all sorts of pings and nasty noises coming from the belly of my car, is there anything I can install to protect my car?? Do I need anything? Oh yeah, I just bought a trunk monkey from toys 'r' us, I suggest everyone gets one, the performance is superb...
Also OT: does anyone else on this board fly?

You may want to get a set of mudflaps. The rocks tend to chip up the paint on the lower end of the doors. And check periodically at the plastic shields in the front side of the fuel tank. If you plan on doing gravel on a regualar basis, get mudflap material or proper skid plates for the tank.

There are a few things you can do..One is to get front and rear skid plates...keeps the vitals from touching down and keeps debris from doing damage..the other thing I can think of would be mud flaps because if you are driving the way you should be then your gonna be kicking up gravel towards the body as well...the skid plates can be found on the Primitive site and the mud flap material can be found on Susquehanna motorsports..much cheaper to make your own..others may tell you to go to pep boys and pick up a size D mud flap for trucks..They are cheap too

Definitely pick up a set of skid plates. When I eventually buy mine, I'll be getting them from the Primitive Racing (click on Dmoz in my signature, then Aftermarket) site. A full set of front and rear is somewhere around $350. Or, you could find a local metal fabrication shop and DIY...
Your primary concern should be the paint on the lips/edges of the wheel wells. Mine are chipped badly! Then again, my bumper plastic is gray and the paint is gray, so you really can't tell! ![]() Check the wheel well in this photo...you can see the rubber that's been applied to the metal of the wheel well to protect from chipping. That came on the car. But, notice that it's not on the bumper itself. Take a close look...you can see the gray paint and the dark gray chips and scrapes going all the way from the mudflap to the rubber strip! This is from two years of heavy gravel driving and constantly driving up the logging access trail of Mt. Ossipee at 75 MPH when I visit my Grandmother in Maine. ![]() On a side note, that's the sway bar hanging off the rear end. Got an SPO bar...it rocks! Trunkmonkey is here! Vinyl windshield banners and decals now available!Sean Sosik-Hamor < sean@trunkmonkey.com > Epinions Automotive Reviews by `Sean Dmoz Subaru Index by `Sean [This message has been edited by Sean (edited August 22, 2000).] |
