Exclamation Help! Car wont go into gear when started!

For some reason I cannot get my car to go into gear after I start it. It will when the car is off though. I drove very slowly last night after work (bad weather) so it was not abused at all. It feels like my clutch does not engage, or so I think.

Help?

EDIT: Works now. ***?

clutch was not DISengaging....
so the input shaft and synchros were still being spun, so they wouldnt let you select a gear...
try adjusting the pedal, if that doesnt work or it keeps reoccuring you have another problem somewhere in there (old/dead clutch or the like)

The tow truck driver put it into reverse then turned the car on. For some reason that did it. Problem gone. I only have 14k miles on the car.

Mi problem is the opposite. When I red line my engine while in gear sometimes it gets stuck in that gear and I can not changes gears at all.

The only solution that I found to my problem is to keep moving/rolling in that gear to a parking lot and turn off the engine. Let it cool down for about 5 minutes and move the stick shift around with the engine shut off. You should be able to free up the gear.

This had happened to me about 4 times. The first time I was scared until I saw one thread in this forum. It this does happens to you, calm down and do what I say and you should be ok, don't call the tower truck !!

At least the tow truck was from the Subaru Roadside Assistance so it was free. I think I'll check my trans fluid level as I have heard they have been low coming from the factory.

now that you mentioned fluid, check your clutch fluid, if its low, or if there is air in the line, that can cause it as well....

I found 2 things:

1. There was some gunk floating in the clutch fluid. The level was fine though.

2. My tranny fluid was on L when the car was cold. How much should I buy? Two quarts?

I guess I can either bleed the clutch myself or take it to the dealer (still under warranty)

Get the clutch fluid replaced.
Also have them check the adjustments for the clutch. You should not have this problem on a new car.

Yeah this is weird isn't it? The car only had 7 miles on it when I bought it and has 14k now.

Another prob that might contribute is the trans fluid level. When the car is cold, the level was at L. When the car was warm, the car was at F. So...I'm guessing that there is enough in there, but I'm not sure. Can anyone confirm this?

My tranny fluid is fine. A member on another site gave me a link to a TSB regarding this exact situation: http://www.scoobymods.com/forums/sho...?threadid=2041

I think I'll let the dealer fix this one.

Hi anyone had this problem? Mine's an '06 sti, and I had this happening to me a few times these couple of days.

What's causing this problem?? I noticed, whenever after I reversed parked the car, I couldn't engage any gears. I had to engage it while the engine's switched off and start it with the clutch depressed. The car will lounge forward slightly doing so. After this, the gears will be working fine—till the next parking.

I'm using a carbon twin plate clutch currently that had been replaced just a few weeks back. I hadn't done any track session with the new clutch. And it was working fine untill now.

Will it have any side effect or repercussions? Thanks lots for any help!!
