Brand Loyalty. Kodak isn't "trendy", so people bash them. All the cool kids buy Canon and bash anything that's not pimped by hot Japanese models wearing street gear.

I have an old school kodak DC240 1 megapixel. One of the first digital cameras, I've dropped it a couple of times and it still works. I've had it for about 5 or 6 years.

Yeah...it's kind of like people saying that the Evo, SRT-4, and Mustang suck just because it's not a Subaru. It all boils down to brand loyalty. From a consumer snapshot point of view, just any camera on the market will suit your needs. When it comes to professional quality, support, and features, I'm a Canon biznatch myself. Why? Because that's what my Dad (professional photographer) uses and I already have all the third party ICC calibration profiles for Canon gear and Epson printers.

Perhaps those people are like me, and have started to develop a deep hatred for Kodak? I had an old Kodak DC215 Zoom... and then it started falling apart. My friend had one of the newer EasyShare Kodak cameras, until the auto focus stopped working. My boss had one, and the zoom mechanism screwed up, then the auto focus went to hell. And, on the more professional grade, we have 2 Kodak microfilmers at work that CONSTANTLY give us trouble and cost an absolute assload to have repaired. Hopefully next week, we're gonna replace them with... guess what.... Canon products (check scanners CR-180)

Kodak is moving its way up my list of companies where it will soon be right alongside Microsoft.

We also had a DC215- it was never really viable as a camera because the batteries would go dead in like ten minutes. We sent it back twice, then when the problem continued, we just cut our losses and moved on to something else.

Having lots of good luck with Minolta, so far.
