Default Clutch judder: when does the warranty run out?

My 2.5RS has been showing symptoms of the dreaded Subaru clutch judder. I've really noticed how bad it's getting in the last few months. Problem is, it was three years old in October, and I'm beyond the 36k mark. I've been under the assumption that I'm SOL, and any clutch work will be coming out of my own pocket.

So I Carfaxed my car yesterday just for giggles, and it's telling me I have a drivetrain warrany on my car for 60 months or 60k miles. Well, that was news to me! Can I still go to my local Subaru dealer and have them check it out, and possibly replace it for no cost?

How many miles have some of you had on your cars and still had Subaru do warranty clutch work?

As i understand it, the 60,000 mile powertrain warranty only covers internally lubricated components (gearbox, engine, turbo, etc.).

The clutch is usually considered a "wear item" - like tires and brake pads.

You might luck out; I just had mine replaced under warranty, though I'm at 32,000 miles.

i agree with the post above...i think the issue is covered under the 36k warranty.

if it's any consolation, my clutch shudder went away at about 30k miles.

3 years, 36k miles is correct.

Nope. I'm not even at 38k yet. It's only been bad since 36k. Doesn't that figure, eh?

You can read NHTSA's crappy copy of the Clutch Judder TSB at http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/prepos/...01031-4238.pdf.

It seems to me that if it is determined that your flywheel must be replaced to fix the problem (per the TSB), then the flywheel replacement should be covered under the Powertrain Warranty. The addtional cost of replacing the clutch disc at the same time should be minimal.

I agree that, given your mileage, you should call 1-800-SUBARU3.
