Post improving the appearance of a 2000 Miata

A friend has a silver 2000 Miata. It's the upper model with the tan top and leather and all. He's ordered a silver hardtop that's coming this week. He really wants to do some things to the appearance, but his ideas aren't very good. He mentioned today he wants to get dark metallic blue Shelby racing stripes. I told him that was a bad idea because the riceboys have destroyed that look. Anybody got any suggestions?

Yeah here's a good idea, tell your buddy to trade it in on a RS, that should help the looks. Sorry you knew some one would say it.
Seriously though, I like the looks of the standard Miatas with the sport package, fog lights and a nice lower lip. A friend of mine has an online Miata shop. http://www.mroad.com He sells a couple of different stripe kits all of which look pretty good IMHO. He also sells racing beat body kits.
Good luck

I could but I was thinking these boards were based on the fact that we have Subie ownership in common, not necessarily that this has to be Subaru content. Correct me if I'm wrong. I don't want to piss of an admin. I just figured I was better off sticking with my own kind than to wonder in to middle-age crisis territory.

Heh. There are a lot of older posters on the Miata Forum. Keeps the insurance cheap on the car for young folks with all the older ones buying them when all the kids leave home.

Back to the point, maybe an imaginative pinstripe kit would look good... but shelby stripes, god no. I like the stock look, except I greatly prefer the base black top and black interior over the LS' tan.

That's all I'm saying on Miatae here.

Leave it alone. That's what I'd say. Don't destroy the smooth lines of teh new MX-5. Ive seen alot of "done up" miatas on SCC and they all look stupid.

do me a favor and thump that kid on the head

anything wrong with a well placed stripe or
two...I was thinking of putting "Viper" stripes on my Suby! (flame suit...oh, *****
where's my flame suit! )

If you think the new Miata needs dressing up there is something seriously wrong with you

Unless it is a base model and has the steel wheels, etc I wouldn't touch a thing. Well, maybe I would put in one of those aluminum voodoo shift knobs.

The Miata is an excellent car. And yeah, the new ones do look pretty nice. It's nice to see that RX-7 design cues live on and still look modern.

Hmm, a nice fat rollbar is always nice. I don't think racing stripes look out of place on a Miata, provided it has some muscle to back it up and has seen some track action. A subtle rear spoiler perhaps. The stock wheels aren't bad. Some 17" TSW Trophy rims might look nice, who knows.

I have a friend with a very similiar 2k Miata, although he didn't get the leather package (no tan top), and he somehow managed to get the foglights without the rest of the body cladding.. The car is great just like that.. He (with some gentle prodding from 'ol Basil) bought a second set of TSW wheels (15") and wrapped 205/50/15 Toyo Proxes around them - very nice, makes the car pleasantly aggressive. The only other thing I could recomend? Well, maybe I'm showing age that I don't have, but my parents have a red miata with a nice chrome luggage rack (OEM Mazda) - looks very nice. Would probably have the same effect on silver..

As a side note, if you look at the stock 14" alloys, you might notice that your center caps are YELLOWING! Apparently exposure to UV is causing the nice center caps to yellow.. Ashame, because they came with nice wheels..

Have you seen the Shelby Series 1? Silver with maroon stripes? That looks pretty trick!

I also like the Bomex body kits, although the stock lines for the car are nice if he wanted to keep the body stock.

The single nicest piece of trim I see on Miata's (and at the NJ autox's there are PLENTY!) is the roll bar. Personally I likle the double hoops (one each behind passenger and driver) best. Makes the car safer too!
