Default What are these All-Data symbols?

Here is a link to an explosion diagram. In it are some parts, numbers, and such. Pointing to a few of the parts are symbols. Are they oil? Grease? Loc-tite? Which is which? I have included them in numbered form below, for my clarifications' sake as well...

1.

2.

3.

I need to take apart the assembly to get at part number 13 on that diagram, only on the right side, instead of left as shown. Any precautions or words of wisdom from NASIOC?

This is as close to heavy wrenching as I ever plan to get on my car,(at least until I have a garage to do it all in) but with your help, I feel that I'll have the confidence to take much more responsibility in my scooby's maintenance.

Those are explained and specified somewhere in the manual for that assembly... grease, oil, and sealant I believe, in that order.

I signed up for an alldata do-it-yourself account to have access to most of the manual diagrams. I don't have the legends you describe. Just wondering if anyone knows what each symbol describes, and in this particular case, what fluids each requires.

1. Engine oil
2. Grease
3. Can mean either fluid packing or liquid gasket.

In the case of the camshaft cap, #3 means liquid gasket, specifically Three Bond 1280B (Subaru P/N K0877YA018).

Do you have one and two mixed up? The drip looks like engine oil, lighter weight oil...

the grease gun on top I think is the grease...

the last one was the one I'm least sure about. you provided a good specific description of that, which I'm trusting to be correct.

thanks

I think Jon has #1 and #2 reversed and that #3 is correct.

Each assembly may have its own particular, even unique to that particular assembly, requirements.
Do not guess "could # 2 be loc-tite or equivilant?"....because that is (almost) certainly a wrong guess.

I would call around and find some Three Bond 1280B (Subaru P/N K0877YA018).

EDIT: Per page ME(SOHC)-58 the sealant is as stated above.

Sorry, yes, I reversed 1 and 2 in my response. And yes, your dealer's parts department can supply you with the Three Bond stuff. Just give them the part number (P/N).
