Post Message Board Browsing Problem.

For some unknown reason my IE is acting up since 2 days ago. Here is what I do. Open the site, click on the message board link, click on individual forums, read the messages, click back to return to the forums description page. Now, for some reason for the past two day the IE was refreshing the forums description page when I click back, so I can't see the lightened lightbulbs anymore. It is very annoying. I have to open every forum in "new window" so that I have the original forums description page open and keep track of new messages. Help...

It might have something to do with the fact that it has to read a cookie every time going to the page but I'm not sure why it would do it all of a sudden. Personally I use Netscape and it always refreshes that page when I come back to it. I always just open each forum in a new window and open each message in a new window from there (I find it more convienent then having to wait for it to reload the pages and not having to wait for each page individually, I can load many at once).

Not sure I can help but you might want to delete your cookies or clear your cache completely. Not sure if it'll help though, so hopefully you don't have anything in there that'd be devistating to lose.

Well, when I click on a "thread" I have not read, I can see all "posts" within it. If I click on that same thread later in the day, I can see the "posts" I read earlier, however, I must click on the refresh button (sometime 10-15 times) to see the new posts inside that thread. Its quite annoying.

Alex, my IE has been acting the same way for months and months. When you return to that page, the script assumes you've read all the posts that were red when you first got there, and marks them all as read. Sucks.

Maybe your boy Nick can work a little magic with the session object??

Opera kinda sucks, at least it did last time I tried it. I mean, it is good as a startup browser created from scratch, but it still was missing things like Java and table backgrounds(images, not colors) last time I tried it. I gave up and designed without it in mind since it was such a PITA. *shrug*

Love Opera's window within a window feature. Really hate clogging up my task bar with multiple windows. JAVAs? I use Opera to browse specific sites like these ones which is Javaless. It's much faster than netscape and IE. Also the new version 4 does improve quite a bit.
NEhow, let's revert to Mosaic..... I wonder if it still works. Anyone tried surfing using lynx?

I used to use lynx back when I was testing out Linux... talk about a trip. Like everything else, you had to learn 700 key combinations in order to do certain things. *shrug*

Mosaic? Man what a POS. I bet that thing hasn't been updated to HTML 3.0 even yet.

BTW, the window-in-window feature of opera is specifically what drives me nuts... it's like you're using AOL's internal browser and only get a certain amount of room to open them up in.

See 8complex you gotta master the number keys. It's heckuva lot faster than point and click each window to open them up from your desktop.
Also it's quite handy at work as no know what the heck Opera is.

Larry - Didn't anyone ever tell you not to run patches from Microsoft employees?

Gambit - Yeah, but you should see my desktop right about now... Probably 10 windows open but they're all cascaded so I can read all the titles at the same time, plus I know which I've dealt with and which I haven't that way. It's all in personal preference, I know, but I'd scare some people pretty bad if I did what I do on their machines, I'm sure.

Speaking of that, anyone used Memturbo? It seems to work great at home with win98 SE but it seem to be a dud on my work's pc NT 4.
