Cool Mobil 1

Almost time....my wife has 8000 miles on her FXT so we should be ready to do the change at 10k. Anyone else running Mobil1? Comments/concerns?

I've used Mobil 1 in a my other subaru's with no problems. I'm giving Royal Purple a try in my F-XT now just because I can get it at the same price and wanted to give it a go. I'm only on my second change w/ synth and haven't noticed any better or worse performance than Mobil 1.

Hmmm. I used to run Valvoline Synpower in my Maxima then switched to Mobil 1. Didn't notice any difference in power or MPG but I swear the engine did quiet down a hair.

Always run Mobil 1 in all my cars, thought of Royal Purple, but never switched.

Supposedly, besides the thermal-breakdown benefits of synthetic, the slippery stuff is *claimed* to net up to ~8% more HP from reduced internal friction. *shrug* never tested it.

You guys recommend 5W-30 or 10W-30 in synthetic?

I just bought a few 5 quart jugs from WalMart for about $19.50 each.

I have not converted the XT to synthetic yet, but that's coming up in a couple months. I use Mobil 1 in my other car too.

Hopefully, I bought enough to keep me out of that store for a year or two. I cannot stand that place. For some reason, the ones around here are complete dumps.

Cheap Mobil 1 though...

Depends where you live and the temperature range that your car sees.

RTFM.

For me (and I think most folks), the 5W-30 does just fine.

I asked that question a few months ago and you responded with that...very helpful. I just posted that today for the folks in the 2.5L Turbo forum complaining of oil usage. Probably the same deal.

I'm getting near 6000 miles and am thinking of changing to Amsoil 5w-30. Everything I've read seems to suggest that Amsoil outperforms every synthetic out there.

I haven't had a Subaru since my 87, but I used to change the mobil 1 every 3000 for the first 200k then every 4000 for the last 140k. I don't know haow often the kid we gave it to changed the oil, but he had it another year. All my cars and trucks have Mobil one oil and filters, also K and N air filters.. I wish my new Forester xt would come in, been waiting 3 or 4 weeks and it went to a shop in Brookjlyn for th acessories last Tuesday and I don't have it yet

I've never seen a bad thing written about Amsoil either, I wish it were easier to get.

My 2 on Amsoil:

I get very annoyed at Amsoil's sales technique.

I'm sure the product is of good quality, don't get me wrong here.

I do get annoyed when Amsoil salespeople post the wonders of all things Amsoil in automobile forums, and not have a disclaimer in their signature that they are salesman out for a sale. They infiltrate forums all over the internet and covertly drop hints about their product. They pose as oil experts but in reality are oil salesmen.

I cannot say that I've seen that here in the Forester part of NASIOC or on subaruforester.com, but it runs amok in a number of other auto forums.

Personally, their tactics alone is enough for me to never try their product.

5W-30 here, though I would try Mobil 0W-30 if I could ever find some.
