I have the Cobb turbo back and it rocks. I have an 05 and I was worried about how the tip was going to look since the 05 has the 4 inch tapered angled down tip that looks amazing. after I installed the turbo back I realized it looks better. it is slightly smaller a few millimeters. and the sound I thought was too loud, until I had a friend drive it while I stood out side to listen. The sound is rocking and the performance is even better.

I will back up the review of the TBE Cobb exhaust, not too loud at all. And the fact that the tip is not huge helps with the MAN.

This exhaust is excellent. If you are looking for nice deep sound but still somewhat "stock" looking than Cobb is the way to go. Cobb has sound clips of exhaust on website.

I got the TBE for my STi. I like it a lot, sound and fitment is A+, but i would make this note:
At first, i used four stock length kb hangers, but they only leave about .5 inch between the muffler and bumper. This was not to my taste. Then, when i went to change them out for the kartboy long hangers, i found that the muffler had shifted and was actualyl pushing up against the rear stock length links. when i took the two rearmost off, it sprang up. When i got them all off, it quit this weird behavior. The longer links retain a stock distance between muffler and bumper, and improve the angle of connection of the donut gasket. |

Have the full TBE on my 05 wagon and did a 5000 mile road trip with it this summer. After about 4 hours in the car the drone became a pain - kind of made us bonkers. However, any trip less than that and the exhaust sounds wonderful. Plus, Stage 2 in Nevada is a nice thing to have
Also, during the install your wrenches can get hung on the little metal "COBB" logo protruding from top of the downpipe ![]() |

I bought mine for my 03 wagon a few years ago and now have it on my 05 STi! It is quiet enough on long trips, loud enough to put a smile on my face and it sounds amazing wide open. I only have the cat back and have done 10+ hour roadtrips w/ no droning @ all so I really can't think of anything bad to say about it. I love it!

Now, Cobb uses the same muffler and tip as Stromung. Cobb only puts it together and only high polishes it to make it look differently. I have compared both exhausts in Subaru meets. They are alike, even down to the slight bump in the intermediate pipe to clear the undercarriage. ~Mark |

Resurrecting this from the dead...
I just installed a new/used Cobb 3" SS Catback onto my wagon, and mated it up to a Perrin Catless downpipe via a donut gasket adapter. Thus far after driving it I'm pretty happy with the sound! It's fairly mellow, and doesn't seem to drone on the highway. I usually drive between 60-70 on the interstate (2500-3000rpms), and can barely hear the exhaust, so I'm rather happy about that thus far as I had heard of droning problems with wagons. Romping on it, it sounds pretty sweet from inside the car - but it's quiet enough to where I can hear turbo spool sounds. Fit and finish are excellent, and everything mated up without a hitch. Thus far after about an hour's worth of driving I'd give it a 5/5. It looks subtle, and everything is high quality. |

I had the full Cobb TBE in my 06wrx and loved it, sounded great, never drew police attention, and looked stock.
Now I have an 08wrx and wondering if it is just as good {for my wants / needs} |

I'm happy with my cobb Turbo back. I have the catted down pipe. I guess We have a modified exaust ban here in washington and the cops on whidbey have been crackin down and handing out tickets and warnings so I hear
. So thats why I went with the cobb. The muffler/tip looks kinda like stock but better in the fact that it's smaller and polished. It's not a big round coffie can sticking out of the back at an angle that draws attention to you. It's got a nice mellow rumble thats just loud enough to be heard when you'r gettin on it but not draw too much attention to you. It just sounds good. My big complaint and ONLY problem with the kit is that I bought a ....3.....inch turbo back!!!! but at the end of the down pipe where it bolts to the mid pipe it tapers down to 2 1/2 in for people who just want the DP with there stock exaust. I am pretty sure I looked at all the specs on the kit when I bought it and no where did I see that I bought a 3 to 2 1/2 back to 3 inch kit. I called them and they said it would cost you some power up in the higher rpm's and that I should just take it to an exaust shop and have them cut the 2 1/2 in section out and have it re-done to be 3 in when I am in the 400 hp range...... but that is not what i was under the impression that I bought. I bought it with a cat and I know that's going to cost me a few hp, but I shouldnt have to modify something I just bought to make it how It should have came in the first place. This wouldnt have been an issue if it was made clear before or while I was buying it, but not as I'm opening up the box on my new exaust. Aside from that I really like the kit and it bolted up great on my 06 TR for 15k miles and then right on the 06 STI(10k with TBE) when I traded in my TR. It's made it thru 2 winters with sanded roads and up and down my 1/4 mile long Dirt/mud drive way every day and it still is not showing ANY signs of rust or corosion(quality of metals is the other reason I bought it) as the factory bolts that hold the DP on the car and even the stock exaust on the old car which was on there for a lesser amount of time are already starting to rust. |
