Default accessport map download?

would it be possible to download maps to the accessPORT other than from cobb's website? say for instance, you download maps from turboxs for the UTEC or ECUtek, would this be compatible say with the accessport? i know that this may be a bit of a dumb question so flame me if you wish or if not, any suggestions would be great.

You can not download and install maps that were made for other ECU options. UTEC is a piggyback computer, so that's a no go, and ECUtek uses differant technology (AFAIK).

Eventually, after the ProTuner (by Cobb) is released, other tuner shops will be able to make custom tuned maps. So, once that tool is released, those shops will be able to share maps with people and you won't be limited by whatever maps Cobb decides to release.

cool, thanks!!!! i was pretty sure that it couldn't be done, otherwise people would've done it already. i guess it doesn't hurt to ask. sorry for making you grind your teeth when writing your response since you've made it so sincere sounding. when you probably wanted to just say "no you dumba$$, it's not possible. what a dumb question."

Naw, it's a legit question. You weren't just asking "what's an AccessPort" or some other question that a simple Search would answer.

Only a small handful of peole have gotten AccessPorts yet (they just start shipping on Saturday of last week), so nobody has tried much yet .

Actually, I think this is a legitimate question. Suppose I'd been dyno-tuned by Cobb in Utah. Would it be possible for me to publish my paid-for map and allow other AccessPort users to download and use it? Or are AccessPort users restricted to downloading only maps sanctioned by and made available from AccessECU.com?

I think that the maps will be able to be traded freely, even if they don't have the AccessPort Street Tuner...If you check out the user guide, you can download maps from the port to your PC and from there I suppose you could send the mapname.rt.apm or mapname.base.apm file to your buddies.

thanks guys for the input! i guess i don't feel as stupid now. so yeah, what you guys covered was pretty much what i was trying to get at.

Jon, you brought up a good point about wanting to freely trade your custom map and that's actually what i was getting at. i figure, many people have custom maps whether it's for cobb's access or ecutek. if you think about it, the map is basically a stored file in a computer based upon numbers and what not? (not sure) i guess it really depends on the software, right? thanks again guys, i hope this thread turns into a very informative one. so far so good.

I read a post by Cobb on their forums where they said they will allow, and not object to us trading maps publicly. They basically said "you'll be emailing them to eachother anyway, so we can't stop you." We'd still be paying for the license for the AccessPort and the hardware to do it. This also makes Cobb's work easier: Then can focus on other products while the user base supplies the non-standard maps.

One thing to keep in mind: The generic maps we can download from Cobb are developed to work on "any 2002 WRX" or "any 2003 WRX" etc. They are usually conservative maps that allow for variences amoung cars and give you some built in safety. I imagine that most "custom maps" will be less conservative and will only be gaurenteed to work on the one car they were designed for. Basically, what I'm getting at: Custom dyno-tuned maps are not going to be as safe as the generic staged maps unless a tuner developed them over time on many many cars.
