Talking Oh Yeah!

I finally got one! A beautiful 1993 Inpreza L Wagon is now my new baby. So I guess I get to be an old skool Impreza owner huh?

But I do have one problem though... the last owner put these horrible ghetto chrome wheel covers on over the black stock wheels. Does anyone have any reccomendations as to what wheels are good, and more inportantly cheap too? Or does anyone who upgraded their RS wheels want to sell me their old ones?

Okay back to daydreaming about dirt roads and endless tanks of gas...

Andy

Hey can I tag along if you do an install-fest? Are there any DYO clear corner pros. in the area? I would do it myself but I would rather not mess it up, so if anyone wants to help...

Hey Andy, welcome to the club!

Regarding wheels, do you have the stock steel wheels (15x6) that support twist-on covers? (when you take off the wheels, do you see a black plastic insert around the edge that has rectangular holes?) If so, I have some nice Subaru wheel covers that I'll sacrifice to you for cheap. Nobody should have to ride around with K-Mart wheel covers.

(ignore the price and the E-mail addr -- mail me directly at joe@choberi.com).

Cheers,
Joe

Egad! 14" wheels!

Fortunately for you, there is a wide selection of OEM 15" wheels ("take-offs") available for very cheap. Tire Rack (www.tirerack.com) usually stocks these. Most of the OE wheels are also very good quality -- my Legacy Turbo cast aluminum wheels (15x6) weigh about 8 pounds each and have stainless steel inserts for proper lug nut fitting.

As you know, Subaru uses a weird offset so proper fitting aftermarket wheels are hard to find. The Racelines that Joel runs are one of the few with the correct offset (and I believe the only ones that fit the 4-pot 298mm mofo brakes!).

Cheers,
Joe

Sure thing! Just let me know if there are any events going on in the future! A friend of mine was telling me about a road out of Healdsburg that is steep and windy, its about 20 miles and goes up to about 4200 feet or someting like that... sounds fun!

This car handles so much better than my last car, makes me very happy Gotta love that AWD!

Cool

Andy,

You're probably thinking of Skaggs Springs Road, which I have driven many times from Dry Creek (Healdsburg) to the coast. It is so twisty and changeable many passengers get motion sick at even the speed limit. One of my favorite roads in the US.

It is an awesome drive for sure. I'll join you sometime since I'm in Healdsburg quite a bit.

Make sure to check out the upcoming Bay Area Track day for ultimate driving thrills

cheers

angus

Hello,

For cheap replacement rims, you might want to consider getting new tires too. I know it's a bit, together, but good tires can be had for about $80 each. With $50 per rim for 15x6" alloy rims, you can be set for $520 or so from the tire-rack with great rolling stock that will fit brakes upto and including those that come stock on the RS, if you ever upgrade.

Joel - running RL7 15x7s on his impreza.

Just wondering, is your '93 L wagon FWD or AWD?

Yup it is. I don't know if it is full time AWD or if it just kicks in if the front tires slip. Anyone know?
