Question Bottoming out rear susnpension ... ?

Hi All
Thanks in advance for all constructive commentary.

I have noticed recently that my car seems to bottom out if I take a sharp corner or if I have any significant load in the back seat (i.e. passengers). When I corner I can hear a sound as if the car was groaning (like the sound of pressure vessel's hull buckling - i.e. submarine at great depth) Is this the sound of the springs/coils bottoming out on the strut tower. I have also noticed that my tires are destroying the rubber liner on the wheel well because of this. It's already shredded to the point that the metal mesh is showing. Anyone else having problems like this? I am running stock suspension, 20mm swaybar, 16" Focals w/ Bridgestone RE730 tires on a MY00RS.

My guess is that the stock suspension sucks and I've already abused the springs to the point where they are no longer effective. Either that or I drive like a maniac and need some stiffer springs.

I would appreciate any wisdom that experienced car tweakers have on this issue. Thank you.

You need stiffer springs or different tires. It sounds to me like you're tires are rubbing against the body of the car which makes that noise and wears them down.

The tires are same size as the stock RE92s. I just upgraded to RE730s. Same size tires and same size wheels. The offset is also the same. The only difference is that the RE730s are about 1/8" wider because of their construction.

I was thinking stiffer springs myself . . .not sure though. All the springs I've looked at lower the car . . which is what I'm trying to avoid.
