Exclamation The few, the proud, the I-club.

I just relized that the Impreza RS is gonna be like a collectable in a few years, think about if the WRX goes big in america, the RS will be like the original mustangs and corvettes. at first only a few were made and then everyone has one. People will be driving down the road and say "HEy look there is a RS. You never see those. I mean you see the new body style WRXs but never a RS" and the 98 RS with the old bumper. that will be a collectors Item. Ok so maybe I'm dreaming a little, but it could happen

it does happen. People don't know what my car is, they just know it's a Subaru. "Hey, I thought they only make station wagons, what's that? Looks sweet ass tho."

Very doubtful. Reason being that it will never have that Mustang, Camaro legend which movies helped make it a celebrity. It might acheive that 1st Gen RX-7 status. Ppl will know it's a RX-7 but will nver hold the same regard as the 3G models. Similarly ppl will be more into the already legendary WRX imprezas. 10 yrs down the road, our cars will be another quirky Subaru creation.

Just look at the early 80s Mustangs. No one care to remember them cus how many movie appearance or legends were born from these model's era?

Enjoy it while it lasts.

Cool

Early 80's Mustangs?? They were Ford Fairmonts with a different body. They won't be collectible because they were awful cars. I'm not saying the Impreza RS will ever be collectible, but at least it's a good car!

I am with Gambit on this one.
Especially a Japanese AWD car a little low on HP. I love the Impreza as much as the next 'Cat' but I would be very surprised to see the RS become a classic.

Question

3800 on the road? I though this year alone 8,500 coupes were made and 8,500 sedans?
that's not counting 99 or 98?

Faraz, you could be right. I am sure that someone on the boards knows the exact amount. I thought it was very low. I could be wrong. Anyway, even if there are double that (3800+/-) on the roads, the number of them beloning to this club is pretty amazing. Cult Car!

Faraz, relatively speaking, that's a drop in the proverbial bucket to how many most cars are sold. Most cars at the price range of the RS is sold in 100 of thousands.

Unhappy

The following conversation took place a few weeks ago:

"That's a nice car, what is it?" Someone asked.

"It's a Subaru." I replied with pride.

"Oh.... a Justy?"

Damn, I didn't even have a chance to tell him it was an Impreza to confuse him even more.

Cool

I think it's cool to have a car that people admire even before they find out what it is and what it's capable of.

I feel proud to own a cult car, not a legend. How many other cars can you think of that out of approx. 3800 +/- cars on the road, roughly 1700 of them belong to a club. Pretty cool.
