Question Buying an RS

Well, it's my 18th birthday and I need to buy a car. I love the RS, but is it right for a kid to own? Can I find an insurrance company that won't srew me for being 18, male, and maybe buying a new car.. Should I buy used right now (i'm looking at a pretty sweet '98 Jetta GLX VR6). Then maybe wait a year or two seel the VW and buy a used '00 RS Coupe? I can't decide(#@$

Hey, I wanted one badly as well but I waited until I was 19 and had a job making at least $500 a week. If you have that then you should be set. Insurance shouldnt be too horrible. Mine now is about $2200 per year (just slightly higher than my insurance on my escort). Its up to you but I would wait and get myself a HUGE down payment. I wish I could have raised mine now.

Cool

Ya, bug's right. The payments on the car might not hurt you, but combined with the insurance, you're gonna get blasted. The only good thing is the car is loaded with saftey features so the insurance won't get TOO high. Depending on the state you live in, here's what I would recommend if you don't want high insurance. Take out a personal loan from a bank or something. The intrest will be higher, but it won't be a car loan, so you won't have to get full coverage. It's better to pay the fee and get the full coverage tho, and I don't know if that will apply in all states.

Lastly, if this is your first car, go cheap and used. The insurance/car companies will be easier to deal with if you've owned a vehicle before. Plus you'll have something to trade in (I'd hold out till the WRX comes out )

Insurance will be more for VR6(it is a v6 right?) and hey if you want the car and you're making enough money I say go for, but debt is a very very very bad thing!

Wink

If you still live at home, have the car rated under your parents and then have yourself rated on one of their family cars. Best rates if you own a minivan . Good luck.
