Default APS cast intercooler duct

Just got finished installing:

I can truly recommend this upgrade. The power delivery is much more linear. This should make the flow dynamics much better overall. This is a must for you folks still running a TMIC and have made power upgrades. I'm a big fan of smoothness...and this little baby delivers. The part is indeed coated to avoid heat soak.

Sorry to take so long getting back to you.
The kit is available from multiple vendors. I got one from the local tuner shop here. You can get it from ISR http://www.isrperformance.com/
the kit is very resonably priced. Some of the guys here talk of the prodrive intercooler hose which, to me , looks no more than the standard Samco hose. This is cast aluminum and WILL NOT split. the flow is so much better.

If you follow the link that ISR provides for the additional info via APS, they tell you that you need model CCD/01 for the APS top mount IC. The stock one is #CCD .

I've got the cast y-pipe on my car. It's a nice piece and I have only one complaint. No effort was made on the inlet of the Y to make a smooth transition from the silicone elbow piece. You can port it pretty easily, but it looks like a bit of a bottleneck IMO.

I can't confirm any difference in power since I installed several other items at the same time.

Here's a pic of the inlet where I've already taken the sharp edge off.

Here's what mine currently looks like (smoothed and lightly ported) and it helps to see where the big silicone elbow dumps into a small aluminum entrance. http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/sjlevy...57.jpg&.src=ph

Some new GDB STis in Japan are coming with a revamped intercooler and Y pipe to reduce the turbulence in the air flow as it flows through the Y pipe and into the intercooler. You will know when these become available here because there are two humps on top of the Intercooler which also increase its area and reduce the amount of room between the Intercooler and the firewall. No idea yet whether this will fit on USDM STis or WRXs with Strut bars.

If APS stopped making it, maybe we can persuade them to make it again because the OEM part will always be more expensive. The Y Pipe out of Japan that we saw is a 1 piece rather than 2. Forgive this post if this subject has already been discussed.

I don't think it had. I know that because of changing exchange rates between US and Australia, things have gotten more exprensive. Even if we got them to make it again, I don'tknow what the cost would be. Might be equal or close to OEM.
