I just did part of my 30,000 mile maitenance, namely replacing my differential oil and transmission oil (gear oil?). They both seemingly went well, I did take off my intercooler, OEM BOV, etc. to get to the tranny oil dipstick/fill. I also took off drivers side front wheel to get to tranny drain and to check on a worn pad (inner front drivers side pad worn a lot more than others, need lube on caliper pins...).
I put everything back together, tranny took 3.5 quarts of Valvoline 80w90 dino oil, rear diff took about 22 oz of the same, took her for a spin and CEL was on. Also brakes mushy at first (because of compressing brake pistons...) but got better after 2-3 pumps. Any ideas of what could've caused the CEL? I came home right home after CEL came on, won't make it to get CEL code pulled until tomorrow, but would like to fix it before driving anywhere. Sorry about the perhaps unrelated brake talk, just background on to what exactly I did tonight. Thanks for any input, Andy

No way to tell for sure what happened without getting the code pulled. My best guess would be that in the process of removing/reinstalling the IC/BOV something got left disconnected or loose. Changing gear oil and doing brake work would have nothing directly to do with this, there is no way a CEL would result from either operation.
BTW there is no need to remove any parts to get to the trans fill as long as you have the proper funnel (long-spout transmission funnel), which is available at any parts store. |

I checked on this again this morning and found the electrical clip just next to the BOV to be loose. I readjusted teh clip holding the main hose to the blowoff so that it was on the opposite side as the throttle body(?), wire plugged back in fine, CEL went off after about 10 miles.
Thanks for the advice about speculation, vile. I need to get a code puller. And Mulder, I will look into a longer funnel, noty worth the risk of pulling IC to get to the tranny fill. Go A's. |
