Default STi V6 Struts vs Stock 03

Hey Everyone I am thinking about purchasing a set of V6 STi Struts for my 03 WRX and I was wondering if anyone had any personal experience with them. Would I notice a big difference in handling, are they worth the money and any other suggestions are very much appreciated. Thanks.

I have experience with the V5/6 struts. Nice units, a bit overdamped at low speeds but great once you get moving or hit big bumps at speed. however, the V5/6 struts probably won't fit properly on an 03 car. The dimensions are different at the clevis bolt holes (the two at the bottom of the strut). But they are very similar to the V7 struts ( inverted strut, similar damping characteristics, etc.)

You'd be best off with a V7 strut (designed for the 02/03 WRX) which you can get used from a lot of vendors here.

STi strut tops are also a good idea to use when getting these struts, keeps the undamped oscillations to a minimum. We've also found that these struts actually ride a bit better with a higher rated spring, like the new 04 STi pink springs. But you would also need 04 rear tops for those.

Oh and if you were to get struts for an 03 what would you go with the STi? Or aftermarket? ^Thanks.

the V5/6 struts used to be really cheap. I got mine new a few years ago for something like $200 for all four but now they are around $150 each I think. The V7 setup is the basically the same thing as the Subaru SPT/STi setup you can get at the dealer for around $1500 for springs/struts. I can't remember if that comes with all the bushings, sway bar and alu control arms.

I would suggest keeping your eyes open for "take offs" being peddled by some of the vendors on the board. They are your best deal. they are usually completely assembled strut/spring/top hat combos off of STI RA's. Usually anywhere from $600-800 complete.

Struts for an 03...well you have KYB AGx's, Koni inserts, the STi red inverted strut, or the STi pink adjustable inverted strut. Any of these are pretty good solutions with people falling into the various camps dpending on their needs, tastes and pocketbook size. On the whole, I would combine these with either Prodrive springs or the 04 STi pink springs (with 04 rear top hats) for best performance and aesthetic combo. With an STi I would just go for the 04 Pink springs and call it a day. Its more than enough suspension for most of the people out there.
