You could check the fuse. I think there are two, but the main one is in the middle row, second fuse from the left. How do I know this by heart? I occasionally find it fun to remove it while I'm driving
You may be right about the snow blocking the sensor though. If you can look behind the rotor, I think there are notches in the rotor (I believe) that the sensor looks at... that may give you an idea where the sensor is...

the ABS light will stay on if it gets covered in ice, don't worry about it. it should go off shortly. It happened to me while doing a little plowing

Also, the ABS light won't go out until the car is shut off and restarted (like if you replaced the fuse).
btw, the car will stop much better in the snow with the ABS off (pull the fuse). Really. |

would I still be able to steer if the wheels lock up and the abs is off? (snow driving)

Nope!
ABS will cause your stopping distances to increase on loose packed surfaces (gravel, sand, loose snow). This is because locking the brakes will create a little wedge of material in front of the tire. This applies to loose snow, not the packed stuff you would be likely to find on the road. But in either case if you lock the wheels like this you will have zilch for steering. Decide whether stopping a few feet shorter, or having control while stopping is more important. Note: I don't care how good you are, if it's slippery enough it's impossible to threshold brake. You just can't feel the point of lockup if it's really slick. Just my $0.02, mbs |
