Default Stock Subaru battery issues?

Hey Guys,

I have heard a few guys say the stock Subaru batterys are poor. I was waiting for my GF at Cap. College with the stereo going and the car off. Was sitting there for like 25 mins like that, and when she came out the damn car wouldn't start.
After letting it sit for 15 mins, I tried it again, and it finally started. So I went by TOTAL and they did confirm the Battery was pretty much dead.

My car is a 02 TS and has 52k on it. Is that norm. for my battery to die?

mine lasted 2 years. I think it's only like a 450CCA battery. definitely not the strongest battery out ther

i was denied warranty replacement because i'm running an underdrive pulley. but when cody tested it he found out it had several faulty cells, possibly defective... but it's too late now

I've had my stock battery since day one. It'll be five years now with no problems.

My sister's car is close to 100K and still on original battery. However, my parent's BMW only got 48K and 4 years have a close to dead battery. While it's not dead enough for a warrenty replacement, they replaced anyway free of charge. Did you pull in amps and stuff like that in your car, so that it's drawing a lot of power? If not a battery should last you around 3 or 4 years of normal use.

I've had my car for nearly 5 years. No problems running the stereo for +2hr while washing my car (with 200w sub). This winter however, it did have a little trouble cranking over. I think this was due to the temperature affecting the battery than the battery itself. It's definetly starting to show its age.

LaterZ!

Anyone use Interstates on their Suby? It comes with a warranty, **forgot how many years, 2 years maybe? and whenever it died, they will replace it without asking questions. Good? I'd that on my previous cars and had no problem with Interstates battery.

Well with any econo-brand battery, you can get a lemon if they come apart or whatever during shipping/install/driving/etc..

I actually found those nice red Optima batteries at Costco, even though the web said they didn't have em.. It wasn't as expensive as I thought, about $140 or so with the $5 tax and the rest of it.. Pricey for audio sake, but I wanted a nice spill proof battery that would take the abuse of running my stereo and my dc/ac inverter, without stressing the stock battery, and it has a nice warranty to save me if it isn't capable.

Now I'm thinking I should just put the good battery under the hood, buy a cheapo gel cell to handle the junk in the trunk, and use the stocker for science experiments?

Hmm.. Guess I should go post hunting in the audio forums...

original battery, 68k kms, and it's dying slowly.

I might take my new interstate out of the teg, and use it for the WRX. Then I can run a Harley Davidson battery in the race car

i duno if this has to do with the stock battery.. i just got my car last month..but every morning when i am trying to start my car up to go to school... soemtimes it takes a while for it to ignite.... i think didnt even ignite yesterday, i had to retry it after a second or two... its not like other cars i have sat or driven before.... but i think its due to the car being frozen in the garage over night.. not sure but i strongly suggest u to not let ur battery on even for 15mins.... i tried that with my old BMW and my mom's van...both car's battery died after less than 20minutes.... once the car gets old..like few years old...... the battery isnt good enough for u to leave it on for 15mins

hah...looks like my battery is normal according to you guys posts.

Today, I just sat in the car and wiper , all gauges on...for 30 min?
then....right.. it didn't start... i checked the voltage that showed in my turbo timer 11.1v on that time. well, let it sat for a while, finally started.

Cody had a special on it for $95. Other wise I think they were $115, or something like that.

I've had car for over 5 years now, still on the stock battery. I sometimes run the stereo on the ferry trips (1.5 hours) and havn't really noticed any difficulties in starting. Seems to stil lbe strong. Hope it stays that way

Isn't idle at less than 12v normal? When I have my music turned on but the car not turned on, the digital display on my system says 12.0

Mine crapped out at ~55k on the 34th month. -35 degree weather did a number on it.. it just coudln't turn the engine over plus I lost all the electronic settings (radio presets, trip odo, etc).

I didn't have a Costco membership at the time to get the Optima Red Top so I replaced it with a 770 CCA SpiralCell Eliminator from Can. Tire. Its just a rebranded Exide Orbital battery.

Cold temperature weakens the battery. The colder it gets, the more power is required to start the car.

Thoes Crappy Tire batteries are really crappy. I remember my uncle's one actually explode and split in half in his Corolla. The replacement he got started expanding and leaking like a few months.

I was told my DD that my battery is dying, and I do notice slower crank over the winters so I think it just might be time to shop for one. 4 yrs and 88K
