Default Any VIC 99-02's been affected?

Was looking through the warranty section and found a service bulletin that was put out for the 99-02 Subaru Imprezas. Has anyone in VIC been affected?

I just want to know if all Imprezas are affected by this, or maybe it's just the US? Yeah, it's kinda strange, but not too many Vancouver owners I've talked to have had headgasket problems (other than 98s)

Yeah, that's about right.

Um, can you give us a clue as to what service bulletin you're talking about? TSB's go out all the time and are not necessarily related to any special problems. Could be just that somebody found a better way to service some part or whatever...

I looked at the warranty section and couldn't find any new threads that might be related to what you're talking about.

So, what are you talking about? Head gaskets?

Oh, this was the one I was talking about.

And yeah, I'm concerned about headgaskets. That seems to be the week point for Imprezas at the moment.

But maybe its just the 1998s in Canada and most Canadian Imprezas are not affected??

No way since USA and Canada receive the same car off the same line. I don't know why we haven't got the notice yet.

Head gaskets are like the caulking around your bathtub -- ALL of them require replacing at some point. The issue here is whether a lot of them are failing earlier than people think they should. I wonder if a decent head gasket rebuild would fix the problem for good.

Anyway, as scary as the $2000 repair bills sound, replacing a head gasket is not rocket science. You could get your valve lash done at the same time. And if the engine is supposed to go 100,000 miles between rebuilds with the stop leak, fine by me...

I'm hoping that a decent headgasket fix would solve the problem.

Was thinking if I pick up a used Subbie, I could try to factor in the fact that the headgasket would go. Save myself 1000-2000 off the price the person/dealer is asking and then just factor it in later as maintenance costs... dunno. Just a thought.

bump.

I guess my main concern is I don't want to be sidelined by a headgasket failure if I go for a Phase II engine.

There IS a new headgasket design out, right?

I think in the Canada forum they say there is a warranty work out in the states for this headgasket fix.

The only major recall that Transport Canada has is something about the manual not being in both official languages or something like that.

But that doesn't mean that the Imprezas up in Canada are better off (headgasket wise) than our Southern neighbors, right?
