Have a Nice Day? SARRC Road Atlanta Woes

Short version:
First 5 laps I was all over the leader (usually one of the fastest guys around).
I ran a 1.42.00 lap and was turning 1.42's consistently. To put that in perspective the track record at Road Atlanta is a 1:41.324. The next fastest guy to me (in my class) ran a 1.42.4. I was almost a half second faster a lap than him.
Lap six I broke third gear. Third gear is the most important gear at Road Atlanta. I ran the remaining laps in 4th gear (8 laps). I was still turning 1.46 and 1.47 lap times. Leader blew his motor. Put me in first. I had a 5 second lead on the car behind me before the gear broke. He finally caught me on the last lap. Since I was running in fourth gear I had nothing for him in turn 7 (slow right hander) and he got around me. I still had more power than him in the straight away and I stayed with him and pulled out to pass him in 10a (sharp left hander). Now, 10a is after the longest straight on the track and down a hill. I was side by side with him in the braking zone when my Left Front brake pad failed and I had no brakes. I pumped them up, but it was too late. I spun off course and had to re-fire the motor and limped for the second place finish.

Things that broke:
Tranny
Rear Differential
Left front rotor
Front pads are gone
All four tires may be flatspotted or chunked

And I'm broke. Wondering how I'm going to get it fixed before the next race.

Todd

Todd -- great race, dude. Too bad the mechanicals let you down, but you know that won't happen every time...

Have you spoken with your brake pad supplier? I'd be interested in what they said (and yes, I know who it is).

Heh, not necessary.

303 whp already.

It's a beast, amazingly even in the handling department. He was gapping the guy behind him by car lengths each lap...

Yes, in all seriousness Bill, you are correct. A company (or multiple companies) who sponsored Mr. Carter could definitely do worse for themselves. The boy can drive, even if he IS from Alabama.
