Default Help: PayPal?

Does it rip off Canadian users?
I mean is there any disadvantage by buying stuff with paypal?

I'll sign up an account with paypal in order to buy online, but can you share your insights in how to aviod some hidden charges?

I usually buy with cash or credit cards, but never had paypal ...

Thanks in advance !

I believe there's no hidden charge. Just service charge. You won't pay service charge when you make a payment, they just charge you (service charge) when you recieve the payment.

no hidden charges if you are buying with paypal. You can also take money transfers from people that already have money in their paypal accounts if you are selling stuff (americans can hook paypal up to their bank account and debit from it too). If you want to sell stuff and take CC payments, you have to pay 3% or so.

the only warning i can give is that if u link your paypal account to your bank account, be sure to use a dedicated separate bank account with only enough of a balance to cover whatever u are using the paypal account for.

there are some scammers that use paypal's flawed complaints system to file fraudulent claims of being scammed and paypal can clean out your bank account of the claimed funds thru your paypal account if they believe what the scammer says instead of u

otherwise, i limit my paypal use to people that i know well and to those with a good paypal seller rating.

All of the above and I don't know if any of you have noticed but their exchange rate is slightly lower then the actual one on xe.com (the up to date exchange rate).

Either then that there isn't anything else and that 3% paypal fee isn't supposed to be charged by the seller. Infact if you read Paypal closely its actually illegal, but since paypal does little to nothing to enforce this rule and law as a buyer you're screwed.

what do u guys think... with the higher exchange rate u can get with a money order, is it worth the fees that the bank or post office charges u to process it, on top of postage fees to mail it, and the time it takes in the mail?

i buy too much stuff online

What I did was apply for a credit card that has a low limit i.e. $1500, and link that exclusively for paypal, that same credit card is what I use to buy stuff on-line.

if u do direct withdrawl from bank account, u skip the 3% charge paypal gets u for using a credit card, despite the fact some sellers just claim a 3% paypal fee on any transaction, which isn't true

Yeah I buy too much stuff online as well.
I would rarely get money orders now unless the seller specifies. I wouldn't want to send large sums of money by a money order as I just don't trust postal services that much. So that kinda puts me in a bad situation as I would save a lot if by money order If I make a huge purchase with.

If you guys need some best rate in town or best service, look for these guys in town
They do basically everything the bank does.

Vancouver Bullion Currency and Exchange
604-685-1008
They are located at Hornby St & Hasting.

Better rate if you're my friend.

And also, thanks for all your inputs guys.

I guess it's safe enough to apply an account right?

or is there anyone here that could possible order a part from the NASIOC vendor for me? I'll pay you back in cash.
I guess it just take too long to apply a credit card with lesser limit and then apply for the Paypal, right !

Someone wanna help?

I bought 1000USD wheels through eBay, paypal.

a little confusing at first because i had to be "authorized" before I can pay over 600USD.

After that, smooth as silk.

I looked into that too but as you said the fees are "HUGE" Aslong as you keep your nose clean with paypal you should be fine. Just never disclose your account email address to anyone who isn't going to be paying you.
