Smile Just got back from Japan

Ok, I basically knew what to expect when I went there but there were a few things that really threw me.

I visited several cities while I was there (business) and it was amazing how the cars changed from place to place. In Osaka it was mini car haven. Alot of them were loaded to the hilt with sports packages and such. Ground effects, hood scoops, wings..etc. It was interesting to see these vehicles for the first time.

Then off to Tottori. Here is where the aggressive cars hang out. The ones that stuck out for me where the Imprezas and Evo's. Oh, and I cant forget the Skylines. The interesting thing though, I would hear a car coming up from behind me, sounding like a little racer, turn arond and see a station wagon. As it drives by I see the grapefruit launcher exhaust pipe. Of course it had ground effects, hood scoop, wing...etc. I wish I had taken more pictures while I was there. Most of the time I was in a hurry to catch a train or find my friggin hotel for some much needed sleep. It was amazing how many of the cars there have aggressive styling. After I asking around I learn that for the most part they come from the factory like that if you get the sport package.

The 2 highlights of my vehicle search would be..... In the parking lot of the company I work for (Diamond Electric in Tottori) there was a WRX wagon decked out in STi goodies. I drooled on it for a while. And one of the days I talked one of our engineers in taking me to the dealership where we got to take a white WRX coupe for a spin. While at the dealer I picked up all the necessary catalogs and such to buy STi stuff. My friend in Japan just said to send him the money and he would take care of the details.

For the most part the trip was hell. Osaka to Tottori. Tottori to Osaka. Osaka to Tokyo. Tokyo to Kawasaki. Back to Tokyo. Tokyo to Narita. All in the span of one work week. Jet lag wiped me out. Walked my butt off. Drank too much (if thats possible). And missed my girlfriend and RS (although they took very good care of each other while i was gone). But, on the good side I saw some incredible cars. Have to get my film developed. I got a picture of a very nice looking Forester with STi package. For those of you who only know of the US model Forester you may get a chuckle from this. Trust me, its a damn nice looking vehicle. If I could get the exact model here in the states it would be tough to say no.

Well, im finished blabbing. Cheers.

Steve

Another reason all the cars are decked out relates to how much real estate costs.

Basically, if your not rich, or don't inherit a large property, your probably never going to live in a house in japan, even making good money. So the japanese do like we do and piss money away on their cars!

Yea, I seriously regretted not mentioning my trip before I left. I was quite busy planning the trip and thought I would have time. Im sure there are a few club members I could have hooked up with while I was there. I goofed

I am heading over for the month of October. Who besides N/A is over there? Maybe we can set something up... that'd be cool! I have no idea where I'm travelling around besides Tokyo and relatives scattered around the area.

I think i'll be there for the Tamiya R/C Worlds in November. I believe I'll be spending most of my time in the Shizuoka area. Anybody near that area or planning to attend the race?
