Nope, it's $20 to download the entire manual from the Subaru tech site. A bit of a PITA because it comes as a bunch of separate pdf files, but a hell of a deal compared to the $2-300 print version.

Boy............I can't figure out how to order the entire service manual in .pdf format for $20.

I try and try, but as I add up the pieces, it comes to over $200.

Would you be willing to help me figure out exactly how to order the entire service manual, for downloading, for a reasonable price?

Thanks...............Frank

I haven't navigated through the process myself as I unfortunately had to buy the print version of the manuals, when I wanted them the techinfo site didn't exist.
You have to find the place on the site that lets you sign up for the 72-hour subscription to do unlimited downloads. AFAIK this option is still available.
Hopefully someone familiar with the site will post in this thread.

If you are offering to download a section for me (Frank), then thank-you very much xxtwowheelfiendxx. But I don't really need anything right now. I just want to jump on a chance to download the entire service manual for $20.

Do I understand correctly that I can do precisely this if I buy the 72 hour membership?

Thanks.................Frank

Yes. You can do this.

BUT it is NOT one file. You will need to go to each section, right click and save-as, for every area. for the 95 i downloaded at least 250 files. Newer cars even more: for the 2002 H6, 280+ files just for engine, brakes, diffs, and wiring.

So make sure you find a good connection, as you will be sitting there for several hours clicking and saving.

Several hours, my butt!!!

I've been downloading on and off for the last 48 hrs, with 24 more to go.

What I didn't realize is that, Subaru only lets you download 20 .pdf files in any one hour. Then you have to wait till the next hour starts, before you can download 20 more files.

If you stay up 24 hrs/day, for the entire 72 hour subscription, you can download "only" (20)(72)=1440 files. If one manual is, say 300 files, it will take you roughly 15 hrs. Of course, if you have broadband access, it takes only 5 or 10 minutes to download 20 files, then you just wait 50 or 55 minutes before you can download 20 more.

Anyway, it is most definately a bargin at $20/72 hours, and at the end of today, I will have downloaded most of three separate service manuals. My wife's Forester, my Baja, and my future STi.

Thanks for all the help fellas.................Frank

Interesting. That may be new. I didn't seem to notice that last time. I did about 300 in three hours.

The site would cover my MY94 Impreza, but not my MY91 Legacy. It only goes back to MY93. Would I be further ahead buying one of those Chilton or Haynes manuals? I could by the Chilton, but I've read some pretty nasty reviews of that thing. Although, most of them came from people who own newer Legacy Outbacks. I dunno. What do you guys think?

It will- they just have to add them. They used to only go back to 00, and then back to 96. Give them a chance .

The Haynes Subaru Legacy 1990-8 manual is not too bad, although it gets very vague when it comes to things like wiring diagrams. Here's a site that has some bits and pieces of old Legacy stuff which, nevertheless, might be useful to you:

Yeah, when did this start? Dang, that stinks.

On 3-14-04 I downloaded 21,268 files from my $20 3-day subscription
