Unhappy Lost TWICE then Pulled Over! Why NOT to Race

FIRST I lose a picup game in ball to my Honda friend which PISSES me off major. For those who care, the guy travels at 10-9, says its not a travel, puts up a real prayer piece of shi!te bank shot and it goes in. We argue all the way to the car. Cop passes by.
Honda guy jumps in his car, he peels out first and second in the lot. I just pull out. We turn left and punch it.
SECOND I LOST to a POS Honda NA stage 1 tuned (ITC AFC, A/F meter, MSD ignition, misc stuff)
THIRD The SAME Cop who passed up earlier pops out of thin air behind us.

In FL, they can confiscate your car for racing. Opie told me this. Maybe I should have listened.

Dude... that sucks. I say if you get into that situation, get a lawyer and go after it. If it does get confiscated, contact me and let me know and I'll be in and out of there with a lotta scooby components damn quick.

PS. Keep a second set of keys and alarm remotes.

Sorry about that Nick.

At least you didn't get pulled over for a DUI and forced to take a breathelizer test (actually, I wasn't forced, I demanded that I take one) ((the cop was just trying to f**k with me

I feel for you. I just got my first ticket in over a year, 78 in a 65, fines are doubled in jersey in 65mph zones.

What I like the best is everybody around me was going the same speed.

but I guess thats the price we pay if we want to play.

Question... when they tow the Metro do they just grab it by the top and put it in the back seat of the cruiser?

...or do they have to stick a penny in the rear bumper and pull it back to get a good spring wind so it makes it all the way to the station?

Sorry... I have no sympathy... I got tagged last weekend for 21 over in a 50...

Well as usual I expect no sympathy from the South East pplz!

Yeah I have a Turbo. sad sad sad.

After the left turn he walked away from me, speed limit was 40. I hit 55 and I hit the brakes. The Honda guy just ran like the wind. He was doing like 80+! Well I sloed down to the speed limit and he waited for me to get to the light. The funnie part is at the light the cop ends up behind me!!! He turns on his speaker and I thought he said
"Could you guys slow it down a bit"
the honda guy swears he said you in the Honda and not you guys. I dont know. But he then blipped his siren at me when I turned left and I went on my merry way. Some cops are coooooooooooooool. But I was scared.

I could make excuses about losing to the Honda, but I wont.

Question

I'm confused here. You have a turbo RS and you lost to a N/A Honda? What type of Honda is this? Explain the mods because I'm curious.

Yeah, that's pretty bad if you have a turbo RS and you're getting rolled up and smoked by a honda. Even an S2000 shouldn't be able to beat a good turbo 0-60. Yeah, give more details. I want to turbo my car but if it means that Honda's will still be competition then I might have to reconsider.

Chaincat,

Um...I'm not sure adding a turbo to a 2.5 RS will bring it's 0-60 down from 8.2 to 5.8 or below...and it won't bring your 16.3 1/4 down to 14.4 or lower...you'd have to do 0-60 in below 5.8 seconds and the 1/4 in below 14.4 to take a S2000...

I'm not as shocked as some of you are that a 2.5 RS with a turbo lost to a Honda...In general, one can be very pleased if a turbo takes 1 second of your 0-60...so, if Nick's turbo took 1 second off of his 0-60 he'd be doing 60 in about 7.2 seconds...Well, a stock Civic Si does 0-60 in 7.2 so a modded N/A Civic Si should be able to bring it down to 7.0 and maybe lower...

Ok,ok...in fairness, you can gain more than 1 second off a 0-60 from a turbo or super...but then we're usually talking some pretty high pressures at which point reliability becomes a real issue...i've seen so many professionally built tuner cars that can't even complete one run...it's really pathetic to see but it's kinda funny!

wonj:

I have to disagree with you here... if you take a look at the majority of our turbo guys here... I believe the 0-60 range from about sub 5s to high 6s.

I do have to agree the S2000 is fast... and will catch up to a RS in a 0-60, but for about the first 40 feet will see nothing, but tailight on a turbo rs... Course I'm sure if my redline went to 9000 It would be a different story...

This is the same old debate... the Impreza is a sprinter... not a long distance runner. Course it's a sprinter with spiked shoes because of the AWD. Honda's are a different breed of car altogether, they have all top end, but very little low end. Apples and Oranges my friend.

NickCat,

High 6's I can see with a aggressive turbo or a turbo with a bolt on mod or two...but sub 5's?!?! As in 4.9 or better?!?! I find that hard to believe. It might even be impossible with a simple bolt on turbo or super. You'd have some MAJOR work ahead of you to achieve sub 5's...

Wonj - I was told that at 10psi and little fuel management a T3/T4 Subie runs 4.75s zero to 60. HARDLY an aggressive setting.

I never made any excuses for losing now did I? I agree it is not fair to match an NA car with a Turbo'd car.

By the way I was running on my low boost setting (5psi)

NickSti,

10 psi!?!?? hardly aggressive?!?! hmmm...maybe subaru's are completely different beasts, i don't know because i don't own one...but in the world of ford and mitsubishi (I own a contour svt and a mitsubishi eclipse gt...various friends have a focus and mustangs) we run 1.5-6psi boosts and are able to gain upto a 50% hp gain!!! 6 psi is on the edge for ford's and mitsu's!! and higher than that and you better have more mods than just the super or else you're engines gonna fall apart/blow up!! Paxton and Eaton don't recommend ANY stock engine be coupled with more than a 6 psi boost!!!

i can't believe your engine can handle a 10psi boost without failing...if it can i commend subaru on a amazing engine and a equally amazing tranny!

also, just as a guess...i imagine you'd have to have about a 300hp or higher output to coax a impreza into making sub 5 second sprints to 60...what's the stock hp on a 2.5 RS? i imagine you'd have to double or nearly double you hp!!! so even if you ran 10psi safely i'm not sure that'd be enough to net you a 100% hp gain...i would think you'd need to do some header back exhaust work, maybe some torque biasing diffs, intake work, cams, reprogammed computer, clutch work, ect...oh, and a intercooler would prbably be a good idea...oh, and you'd probaby have to ditch to stock wheels/tires and get something that'll get all that power to the ground...

wonj you are correct. 10psi is not exactly docile, I ws being a big sensational. But you can achieve that low 5 sub 5 time on 8psi. And the general consensus is 7psi is a relatively safe level for the subie with reg devices (AFC,ITC,gauges). I personally run 0.6 bar on my high setting and the car runs fine except for nasty timing retard (yeah yeah ur right shiv).

wonj - Maybe one day you can take a spin in a Turbo RS and you will see the light. In all seriousness, hp is not everything. Sure we have a lousy 165hp but with 166lbs torque and AWD you get some awesome 60 feet and 0-60 times. Just ask around. Very little people (more like HARDLY any) have fiddled with thier cams. Ditch Stock wheels? umm uh okay whatever you say, don't see the relevance, but I get it if you mean the sucky tyres.

wonj - your "cold hard facts" are very cold indeed. You have no factual basis to those claims but what you've read in mags. You don't own a Subaru so don't pass judgments on their potential.
