Default 02 wrx clutch advice

31K miles all of a sudden the pickup on the clutch is very short, not abused, did have lots of shudder early in its life. Bringing it to the dealer soon, any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Do you mean that the clutch engages with the pedal just off the floor? Or, does it only engage right at the top of the pedal travel?
If the former, there may be a problem with the clutch hydraulic system (master/slave cylinders). If the latter, the clutch itself could be wearing out.

Well the total pedal travel is about 5 inches, the first 2 inches closest to the floor does nothing, the top 2 inches do nothing, the middle 1 inch or so thats where the clutch engauges! The change happened all of a sudden and the car is driven by my wife so it hasent been abused? ***? I have to wait till the 24th to get the car looked at by subaru. What if anything should I know before I go? TSB's etc... When we first got the car it shuddered like crazy after a warm day the car sat overnight outside in the cool air and ,what I think happened was moisture would build up on the clutch overnight. I called a Subaru dealer and they said why get the clutch change with only 5K on the car use it and replace it before the 36K is up. Thanks.

So the engagement is no longer progressive as you bring the pedal up, but sudden? Sounds like it might be a pressure plate or disc problem. Hydraulics are a less likely cause if the engagement isn't abnormally close to the floor.
Definitely have the dealer check it, and post what they find.

No Brainer! Take it now while still under warranty!
There is a flywheel, clutch part replacement recall!

No such recall to my knowledge. There is a clutch "judder" TSB (not recall), but this problem clearly doesn't seem to be clutch judder.

Bringing it tothe dealer on the 24th. I'll keep you all posted. The problem may be the fact that Im getting out of driving my sti and then drive the wrx. The 2 systems are so different that its actually an unfair comparison. The problem lies in my sensitivity or the fear that somethings not right! I had the same shudder problem in my 02 forester and they replaced the clutch under warranty.
