Exclamation I bought it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well I finally gave in. A few days ago I signed the papers on a white 2000 2.5 sedan.
NICE!

I'm pumped. Fishguy bought me a trunk monkey
(which you can see on his webpage stuffed in the hood, sort of an off-white color), which I'll probably pick up tonight when I meet him. The car itself should be in next week or the week after.

I did get boned on the price, though. I was told I got the car at a little over invoice, which puts it at let's say $19,000. Well my final cost was $24,050 or something. Uhhh I didn't get $5,000 worth of options!!!!!!!
Why... WHY???.... didn't I argue more? ARGH.
They gave me, supposedly, $7,200 for my Acura
(original offer was $6,200), but since the Subaru's cost was so high, I doubt I ACTUALLY
got that much. So I put $1,000 down on top of that.... and will be financing $15,500 or whatever.

*SIGH* Maybe I can nail the dealer for the extra money later on, I'll figure it out.
For now I'm a happy guy, though!

they probably just didn't want to give you over $7000 for an acura. What year was it? They probably Stiffed you in the fine print too. my Mom and I bought my brother's 200sx from a "five-star" dealership. We argued for around an hour and a half and went through 3 contracts before they finally got near the price they had quoted the night before. I guess the five stars are for how good they are at swindling people with the fine print.

I know that's what happened, I think what I'm going to do is ask for a cost sheet for all the options once they install them. Then I can sit down and say look, this stuff does NOT cost that much...

Anybody know what I can do at this point??

Oh... and the car was a '94 RS, the base model. Kelly Blue Book trade-in value is just over $4,000... pathetic. So that's probably what they wanted to pay, though they told me $7,200 so the numbers don't match...

Hey, congrats on ordering your car. I went with white too. You are getting boned on the price. I paid $19,066 for my RS, which had a final sticker of about $21,800, with every option (no stereo options or leather). I put down $12,000, and finaced $8000.
Do not sign a thing. Always get a price without a trade first, and then get a price w/trade. I think they just taged on money to your RS, to cover what they promised for your Integra. You are giving them your car, and paying at the same time. Sell your Intergra on your own. And seriously, I would walk out if they do not come down in price. That is crazy.
You get get invoice data and option cost write off the internet. They www.edmunds.com, or autobytel or something.
I got $500 from Subaru (dealer incentive thing), and really paid $200 over invoice.
I think invoice is like $17,800 without options, but I ordered my 99 over a year ago, so I am not sure.
E-mail me personally. I have all the stuff at my house. Let me know what options you want, and leave me your number. I'll call you. I am so sick of people up here getting ripped off. I ordered my car from Jersey and took the train there to pick it up. I registered it in Mass before I went to get it, so I had the plates in hand. It was all done over the phone.
Please e-mail me. I would love to be more helpful, and stiff a dealer for a change. I could not get a Mass dealer to place an order for me in Feb. 99, so I said I will take my 12,000 dollars elsewhere!
It took 3 months to get the car, but that is exactly what I was told.

But I already did sign... I have the yellow sheet (customer copy) and everything...

I mean do I have to sign off on the car itself when it arrives, and THAT is the final paperwork, or what?

I just feel dumb...

I'll Email you.

Well, I e-mailed you. I am not sure about how the paperwork/signing thing goes. I would definetly get a breakdown of the cost of each option, etc..., and you can get a list of cost from subaru.com
Just build your own Impreza, with your options, and it will give you MSRP for the car, and a breakdown of the costs I think.
Bring it with you to the dealer, and compare. If they are way high, I would just walk out. You may lose your downpayment, but if they are overcharging you $4000, I would loose a grand.
I did get a very good deal though. I knew a friend of the salesman, and my father was a big help with all the internet info. Now I can help you the same way. I would even call the guy in Jersey and get you a price if you want, or have him contact you. He knew I had all this info, so did not jerk me around.
Maybe another dealer can beat your sell price, and tell you how to get out of it?
We can deal more with this once I get home and look at my paperwork. I am pretty sure you do not have to take the car if you do not want to, but read the fine print on that paper and see what it says.
It is not all that bad, you are getting a great car, and a great color
I'll stop raining on your parade now..

This is what I've heard mentioned by all the salespeople who hang out at Edmunds.com - dealerships actually like to play number games. They would rather raise the value of the trade in AS WELL as the price of the car (keeping the portion you pay the same)! The reason is statistics are kept on what the OTD price of all the new cars sold and this price game is one way to "pad" their numbers for bragging rights!

Also, if you've signed the contract, then it'll be really hard to get any of the numbers changed! In the future, NEVER sign any document UNTIL you are ready to drive off with the car. As far as ordering/dealer swaps, you are only obligated to drop a small deposit, and even then, ALWAYS have a written quote. This way, if they play ANY price games, you can legally walk away w/ your deposit returned.

In that case, just go haggle w/ the salesman! Ask him to explain EVERY charge. If you need a list of invoice prices, go to www.carorder.com and "build" your own Impreza. The invoice price listed on CO is accurate (as verified by my dealership).

The final note is that the PRICE game really doesn't hurt you (as long as the price you're going to have to pay is the same!!!). If they want to jack up the price of the Subie and the Acura trade in the SAME amount, then thats fine (ASSUMING you live in a state where taxes are assessed on final negotiated price!).

Hey Siper2, congrats. As far as your price issue. What state do you live in? In California, once you sign the agreement, you cannot back out, but in other states you can. Did you pay a deposit? If you haven't taken possession of the car itself, the deal has not been finalized. So, go back in there and haggle your ass off. I know some people are not comfortable doing that, but it's worth it. Good Luck!

I simply cannot believe all this support.
Man I tell you what... Thanks so much!!!

I planned on talking to the salesman again, I'll probably call him and try to do it that way. I still have my car, the dealer hasn't signed on the title yet, so it is legally still mine.

Guess it's back to work. I can wait, no problem waiting. Well... sort of a problem.

OH! HomerJay, I live in New Hampshire. Tax-free, but apparently not hassle-free.

If you can email me all the options that you ordered on your car, I will be willing to spec it out for you with our spec book, give you invoice, msrp, and also if you can give me the details of your trade in (miles, options, condition) try to figure out what they did to you.

I would go to the dealer in person. Over the phone most places won't give you the best price.

Siper2, if you haven't signed bank financing papers yet, you haven't technically bought the car, and you can bitch and moan with them all you want until the bank papers are signed. If you are financing, the bank is technically buying the car for you, so until they say "yes" the car isn't paid for.

Hey evil, that's not the filter for the engine. It's a hepa filter for the interior compartment. Totally unnecessary option. You can get it aftermarket also.

Well, I think these are the steps you need to take.

1. Go to www.subaru.com and build the actual car that you ordered. It will give you the final MSRP. Print it out...

2. Go to www.edmunds.com and print out the pages on the Impreza. I was just on it. Lots of info, and they give you dealer cost, and MSRP for all options, etc..

3. Go back to the dealer and renegotiate the price. If they are unwilling to work with you, tell them to cancel the order. (This is where you have to decide how long you can wait for a car and see if you can get your Acura back, downpayment, etc..)

What was stated above about dealers and trading in value is probably true. That is why it is a good idea to get a final price without a trade in, and then say, now how much for my car? They can not jack the price up anymore, only give you less for you trade.

I think you can get out of it. I signed something to say I gave a deposit first. All the final paper work and load stuff was done the week I picked it up, once the car was at the dealer.

If you want, I will supply you the number of the dealer in New Jersey. You can give John a call (my salesman), and see what he can do. I'll drive you down there to pick it up when it is delivered if you want. (You live in NH, I am near Boston) I am not kidding, I grew up there. My parents still live there.

E-mail at work if you want. My internet connection is slow.
