Default does the check engine light come on when u need to go in for maintenance?

Hi, my check engine light turned on when i hit 17770 miles while i was driving on the freeway 2 weeks ago. and its stayed on ever since. the car drives fine and it doesnt feel as if anything is different.

I was wondering is it because i havent brought the car in for the 15k service? or is something wrong with my car? i have a turboback with hi-flow cat.

thanks!!
peace,

gary

Get it pulled to see whats up.. It does not come on when it needs an oil change or general maintenance>> I would think it is due to the exhaust because you say you were on the freeway when it came on.

go get the code pulled, and find out if you can fix it yourself...
Better yet, just take it to the dealer, it's under warranty still!

EDubb (no more warranty!)

Subies aren't like Honda's. You probably have the cat inefficiency code, but you'll never know for sure unless you get the code pulled. Drop by Autozone and get it pulled. Then we can tell you how to fix it.

Calvin's right, most likely it's a P0420 code..cat inefficiency code. But this is merely speculation until you pull the codes...Autozone is your friend unless you know someone with a scan-tool.

Talking

ok thanks guys for the super fast replies!!

i cant really bring it into the dealer cuz of my mods...im afraid they'll void my warranty....

ill check to see if autozone will pull the cel for me....i just read in another post about cels....a guy said that autozone in california wont pull cels..and that pepboys charges 85 bucks to do it...

ill give autozone a call..hopefully they can do it...

also i plan on sending in my ecu next week to cobb for a stage 2 reflash. will the reflash get rid of the cel if it is a cat deficiency cel?

also one more thing...anyone have any idea why it came on when it did? this is the first time the cel came on...and ive had the turboback on for the past 15k miles...

actually...i doubt anyone can answer that question..since i dunno what cel it is.
ill go get it pulled and see what it is.

thanks again guys!

THe Cat cel usually comes on when driving on the higway for extended period of time.. If you have to pay 85 for them to pull it just buy a scanner.. Lastly i am not sure about cobb but ecutek can remove codes from the ecu so you wont get that particular cel anymore, i would think cobb could do the same but i am not up to date on the access ecu's.

Regardless of whether or not the Cobb solution removes the CEL, I would still suggest that you find out what the CEL is indicating first. You want to make sure that there aren't any problems and not just cover them. That could lead to future problems.

Hi there

sometimes if the backup battery on the OEM ECU is busted it also causes the CEL to come on. But in your case, it should be due to some exhaust related issue. cheers!

Since you're in CA Autozone won't scan your car for free, as you've already heard. If you post in your local forum you should be able to find someone close to you with a scanner who can do it for you, a lot of us have them.
