I just wanted to let everyone know... I emailed Tacoma Subaru, looking for the 2001 forrester cupholder (the nifty dual one that fits in the single size slot in our RS's). Bad news! Due to problems with it breaking, Subaru will not put this into Forresters in 2001, and we are all stuck with the single front cupholder.

That is interesting I was just at the local dealer and all their 2001 Foresters have that dual cupholder.

All of our 2001 Foresters have the dual cupholder. You might want to call and ask a different dealership.

Every 2001 Forester I've seen has the dual cupholder. Pretty soon I'm going to go rip one out on a test drive and put it in my RS. I don't understand why all the magazine reviewers love that ridiculous center console cupholder in the RS. That's the worst placement I've ever seen. You can't get to it while driving if you do use it. But if you use you can't use the compartment for normal storage. And if you use the compartment for storage, then you can't use the cupholder. It's just plain stupid. The glove compartment door would have been a good place to put one. That thing's massive enough that it should hold just about anything. I set a 12-pack of beer on there the other day and it didn't complain at all.

ya know, I absolutely love the center console cup holder in my RS (the one behind the handbrake). Its out of the way, its extremely secure (i've practically had my car upside down, and no spills), and if you were to spill it'd be a cinch to clean up. Plus you can squeeze just about any size cup in there. The dash mounted cupholder? I never use it.
1. flimsy 2. blocks the hvac controls 3. condensation from a cold beverage drips all over the place just my $.02 ryan |
