Default make some noise!

Some way or another we gotta get this forum going...

I'm brand new to the board and don't know where the majority of the baja owners post...we should all be posting here!

I'm a noob when it comes to searching the board..i've tried, honestly...

I still don;t know what engine we have in the baja or the potential that it has.

Keep it going...

Check your manual with re to the engine.

As far as board activity, since i joined in december this has been par for the course. This is primarily an Impreza and modder site. Obviously the majority of Subaru's sold are Outbacks, yet you wouldn't be able to tell this by this site.

So i think only people who are looking for accessories/mods for the Baja etc would wander to these boards and find this Baja forum.

All Baja's thus far are 2.5L 4-cylinder horizontally opposed (boxter?) engines I believe, either 165hp for the standard or 210hp for the turbo. So, there's your engine in a nutshell.

SouthShore has me pegged. I wandered across the NASIOC forums while searching for info on Baja bed covers. I'm glad I found it, even if the club is centered around Imprezas. I used to be a part of an Isuzu group before I totaled my Amigo. Most of their conversations dealt with older vehicles or off road mods, but I still picked up things here and there. Having the option of being able to ask the advice of a common user group is nice.

I know that we have the 2.5 w/ 165..just not sure the model it is or potential.

I'd really like to get some more out of this baja as far as the motor goes..i'll start saving after the ring is paid off (i just got engaged...getting married in Sept)

What do you two have in mind for your baja to make it a little more unique?

We should ask Pipercub for a sticky that lists commonly asked for Baja aftermarket parts such as bed covers, lights, hoods, ect.

Someone will have to find all the info and put it together in a thread titled "the official Baja parts thread" or something like that, then once its stickied we can add on as things come down the pike for us Baja folks.

The entire Nasioc forum seems to go through serges (sp). Most impresa people are normally on i-club.com. But I agree that we need to get more activity here. The engine in the Baja Turbo is the EJ25T, and the Non turobo should be the EJ25. The potential is yet to be seen because the Baja T Shares the same Main components to the STI and just some tuning and performance parts seperate them. Now that the EJ25 is in an impreza, there will be more mods for it comming out. I have not found mutch for the Legacy 2.5 GT for mods that are specifically for it. Most of the mods I have found have been ported over from the imprezas. So currently the modifier shops are now blowing engins and tranies to find out what combinations they can come up with to get the full potential out of the EJ25. Sorry for the long post, but we can be asured that tere will be more information comming out on what works and what doesn't. You can check the engine specific forums and get some information there as well.

I also have been looking high and low for aftermarket parts like lights and so forth, but I have not been comming up with mutch. We do need a sticky for all this stuff so it will help everyone out.

I have been looking around also, I think now with the turbo baja's out there will be more "enthisiasts" looking to talk about the car and upgrading it.

From my understanding the turbo Baja's motor differs from the STi as follows (and feel free to add to or correct anything)
--STi has a larger turbo. Seems as if many STi people are upgrading their turbos, allowing a baja or forester person to acquire and STi turbo for $600-800. This turbo can support about 17.5 pounds of boost. Stock turbo baja is 11.6, with unknown upgradeability. Stock STi is 14.5
--The block is the same, but the STi has different cams
--the STi has sodium filled exhaust valves (of dubious additional value in my opinion)
--the STi has a larger air cleaner, intake path, and higher flowing exhaust. The baja's MAFS is attached to the air box in a single unit, making it impossible to upgrade the air box to an open element K&N style filter without also replacing the MAF.
--a stock baja turbo puts about 180awhp down to the wheels, the Sti's put down around 225-230. A stock WRX puts down around 165. Those numbers (nor 11.6 pounds of boost producing less than 4hp per psi) do not really add up to 210hp, more like 230-240, with 25% drivetrain loss.

I believe that the Forester XT has the exact identical engine as the Baja-T. There's more performance mods on that forum. The Baja-T is truely a cross bread... Body and frame is from the Outback ; Engine and Tranny is the same as Forester XT. So for stuff like strut bar and maybe suspension you have to look at Outback parts and for Engine parts you have to look at Forester XT parts.

I thought I read somewhere that the baja t and the forester xt were getting the sodium filled exhaust valves. But that was a while ago, about the time of the FXT release and I could be remembering compleatly incorrectly.

I am actually even wondering how different the cams are, because it seems as if a forester with the same mods as an STi can actually make the same if not a little more power. This is what my salesguy told me at the dealership, and he was a serious enthusiast (not like your normal salesguy, or one ive ever had before for that matter), but doesnt mean that he was correct on the exhaust valves. Maybe someone else can pipe in with a confirmation or more information?

I did some research and found that the Baja does have the sodium-filled exhaust valves. According to the specs on http://media.subaru.com. Here is the link to the Specs PDF that they have: http://vocuspr.vocus.com/VocusPR30/T...bo%20Specs.pdf

They don't have the nice specs for the Forester XT but here is the pdf that they have for it:
http://vocuspr.vocus.com/VocusPR30/T..._5%20XTAAG.pdf

There is no mention of the Sodium-filled exhaust valves in the at-a-glance information and it doesn't mention it in the Baja T at-a-glance as well.

I have been doing searching on the forester XT and the sodium-filled valves, and haven't found any concreat. So maby we have something on the Forester XT people?

So what's a sodium-filled exhaust valve, and what benefits do you get by having them anyway? Prior to this thread I had never heard of such a thing. I know what an exhaust valve is, I know what sodium is, but I don't know what you get when you've crossed the two together.

The primary difference between the two is that the Baja-T/F-XT enigne has a higher C/R than the Sti, although I can't locate the exact numbers right now. It was sort of a compromise they made. To run a higher pressure turbine in the Sti required a lower C/R to avoid detonation on pump fuel. But hey, maybe I'm wrong, I never claim to be an expert.
